what state is best for concealed carry?

I am researching it and but I think it would supprise a lot of people.

In Idaho there is no class required by the state, but a county may require it. Also, you do not need a permit as long as you are not within city limits. I live in a county that does not require a class. I just paid $53 and a month and a half later got my CWL. I know there is a state that doesn't even require a permit but I don't know what it is. Maybe Alaska?

Vermont, I believe is the state that doesnt issue permits.

VA isnt so bad, except for the stupid restaurant law and a few other. But the restaurant one is the worse. I didnt have to take a class to get my CHL b/c I had already been through firearms safety with hunters safety course(when I was 9). $15 and 2 weeks I picked up my permit good for 5 years.

Heres an interesting question. If I am visiting vermont can I carry?

As far as licence states go PA allows carry anywhere except courthouse. Shall issue also. What does your state allow?

Florida, where I live, is a 'Shall Issue' state. But you have to take a class, fill out an app, get fingerprinted, send in $75 and a passport photo, and wait. And wait.

In Alabama, which is a 'May Issue' state, all you have to do is fork over $20 and you get your license immediately.

In Pennylvania you don't have to take any tests and there is no class time requiered. You can carry in bars, banks, almost any place exept courthouses, schools, post offices, and a couple of other places. You just go to a court house fill out some paper work, give 2 references and in 45 days or less you have your LTCF. but go across the bo
rder to New Jersey and New York State it's another story.

Vermont! Serious gun country up here. Also the second lowest crime rate in the country! Doesn't make sense does it Brady?

While I do agree that you SHOULD NOT be required to have a government license to exercise the right to carry, in most States that "allow" it, you do need a permit. If you're from a State that doesn't require one, and travel to a State that does, well, you're S**t Out of Luck for the most part. I teach Utah CCW, and it, along with Florida, are about the most universally recognized Permits out there. You do have to take a class, but you don't have to be a resident of Utah, and never have to set foot in the State to get it if you can find an Instructor in your area. I live in Wyoming, and teach CCW here as well. We have a fairly "liberal" :)barf:) system in place for getting a permit as well, but you have to be a resident. And our laws are fairly simple, straight forward, and no B.S. for the most part. Oddly enough, kinda like the way it used to be, and SHOULD still be everywhere else. They don't call us the "Cowboy State" for nothing:neener::D

Anyone interested in either State that lives in Wyoming (I travel a lot), northeastern Utah, or northern Colorado, PM me and let's chat.

Ohio, (the question was "best for concealed carry). From what I've been reading on THR a number of applicants for CHL's have to jump through hoops, and one guy I met from IN showed me a card one day his license just to buy ammunition.

The SO's have a mandatory 45 days to issue a license and the vast majority of applicants get theirs within one or two weeks, some have gotten CHL in 3 days.
The usual crap laws exist here like most other State, (gov't buldings, bars). The battle regarding city parks was won last Sept, and the Governor is gun supportive. Property/business owners have the right to restrict gun carriers and I agree with that. I've also experienced traffic stops and have never had a single problem, and the majority of CHL's have very good LE encounters.

State parks are legal in PA now. Law was changed last month. Interesting is that the law does not prohibit school carry with a ccw. "a couple other places" I dont know of any other restrictions other than courts and federal.
Was told by my local superintendant of schools that I would be fired if I was caught carrying in the school(teacher) but no criminal charges.

The OP asks an interesting question about the least restrictive to carry. While Vermont and Alaska are least restrictive in issuing, they are more restrictive in where you can carry than other states.

Cum hoc ergo propter hoc much?

I can't speak for Alaska, but in Vermont as far as I know it's just the usual no schools, courthouses, etc.

Correlation does not imply causation.

Exactly. Not every state prohibits schools. Alaska has further restrictions on bars and suchs.

Another vote for PA . there is also no worries about flashing (cover comes up not brandishing) your weapon or printing laws ontop of whatevery one else has said. also if you happen to forget your permit while carrying you get issued a small fine and can even have that taken away when you present the judge your permit. The law regarding carrying in a car without a LTCF does suck but the OP's question pertained to those with a LTCF.

The biggest thing I think is carrying in any bar without having to disarm. I was a bouncer for five years from Queens NY upto Newburgh NY, I know it's smart to have a pistol on you when there.

Anyone from any state who can legally own a firearm can carry it concealed here in Alaska. I am an Alaskan Concealed Firearms Permit holder myself for reciprocity purposes.
