I recently purchased a Sig 556. I am now in the process of finding the proper case for it. I am looking for a soft case that will protect the rifle and allow me to carry a pistol or two, magazines and ammo. While I have found some “professional” reviews I have not found much in the way real user recommendations. Prices seem to range form $30 to nearly $200. One manufacturer, i-shot, claims that its case was designed with input from users of this forum. Any input on the quality, durability, usability of various cases is appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

I just got a 5.11 rifle case from lapolicegear.com Looks pretty good so far and seems well made. It's replacing a $40 Chinese knock-off that was falling apart.

They were on sale there last time I looked. BSW

The Molle bags from CTD are a steal. Very high quality. Good zippers, good stitching, heavy material and thick padding.

I have the 36" for carbines and the drag bag for rifles. Both equally fine products.

I've been using a Tactical Tailor Covert Carry bag for several years and it works quite well. If I remember right back when I had a Sig 556 the 32" M4 bag was a little small, but you'd get good results with the 36".

Plus, all their tan colored stuff is presently 20% off, if you don't mind the color.

I thought this question was so basic, I almost didn't post. There are several great suggestions that I would not have found looking on my own, so I am glad I asked. Thanks for the replies.

I have an Eagle Inustries that is heavy duty with a zipper pocket in the front & about 6 pouches on the side for mags. Nice shoulder carry strap. It cost about 65 dollars in 1999. I just picked up a Bull dog for 12 dollars, not heavy duty but it will work.

Had a 5.11 it was great. Has a real "tactical" look. Now I have a Boyt. It's also great, comes with a bunch of free stuff and looks a lot less "tactical" Everything mentioned above is also great, just pick what suits you. If you don't like it you can always buy a new one and then you have a back up for your next purchase...:D

Hmmm. That's the bag that was falling apart on me. BSW

Man, I'm sure sorry to hear that. Was it zipper problems or just bad stitching/weak material?

I almost didn't get the first one b/c of a few poor reviews about the zippers for the smaller compartments, but I found those reviews to be false in my case...so much so that I ordered another. I carry an AR and an 18" shotgun in the smaller case and 2 rifles (granted, 1 of them is only a .22lr) in the long bag. Have had them since Sept and Dec of last year with no issues so far. I wonder if the manufacturer addressed the issue(s)?
