To make a very long story short, my lovely wife has agreed to let me buy something for myself. The budget I have set is $3000, so pretty much anything that isn't .50 calibers or a British double rifle falls in that category. But I'm not certain what to get, I already have a fairly diverse collection.

Rifles
FS2000
PSL 54c
Saiga 308
WASR10
FAL
AR-15
Savage 110L 270
M91/30 hex
M39
M1 Garand
SKS
Henry golden boy 22LR
Pistols
Witness Pro 10mm
Rohm 63 .38spcl
RIA tactical 1911
CZ 82
Shotguns
Maverick 88
Mossberg 500a
Mossberg 183T
Winchester Model 12
Ruger Red Ball 12ga
Browning BPS 3 1/2
Browning Auto 5 16ga

See what I mean? What could I add to round this out? I know this is the rifle section and that's primarily what I'm looking for, but don't be afraid to through out other suggestions.

It seems like you have a pretty complete collection. A K31 would make a nice addition, but the higest price ones are around $500. Buy one of those and a few hundred rounds of ammo and you still have a ways to go to get to 3K. Maybe a Colt SAA in 45 colt as well? I can''t really think of many other suggestions.

If you want a k31 that costs a bit more, look for a Zfk55. Its the sniper varient. They average anywhere from $2-4.5k. If anything, consider them a safe (and fun) investment.

I'm sure you'd get more suggestions if you kinda prompted what you were looking for in the next purchase:

range?
use?
cost of caliber?
antique vs modern vs collectible

I know you want something to fill a already tight gap, but you should at least have an idea of what you'd do with such a firearm.

P.S. If you can't think of another firearms look into other shooting related things such as reloading, a spotting scope, suppressors, etc.

Edit: I though it would be a pointless post if I didn't offer at least a few suggestions.

Shotgun: Winchester M1897 WW1 Trench (make sure its legitimate!)
Pistol: FN Five-seveN. They are pretty interesting and look very cool.
Rifle: Mac-10/Ruger AC556 <--- those might be a little out of your budget,
but would be great entry rifles into full automatic firearms

Though I like the MG 42, maybe some gold and/or silver?

You're right, I should have put the intended use. I can get more then one by the way.

I have most of my "needs" covered, so this is a mostly "because I can" gun. I'd rather not do anything NFA yet, mostly because it's a very long process. I'd prefer it to be ammo I already have, but that's not a biggie, especially if milsurp comes into play. Most of my local and not so local ranges don't go farther then 100 yards, so I more then likely wouldn't be using this new one farther then that (but one never knows).

As for reloading, I'm currently set up for it in every caliber I have and several calibers that I don't.

Oh and thanks for the suggestions thus far.

EDIT: Oh, almost forgot! While I do love authentic models of guns, replicas are fine with me too. To me, they don't take away from the history at all and make owning a part of history far easier, IMO of course.

I'd go with one of these:

1. Good to great quality optics for one or more of what you already have

2. Another rimfire; specifically a .22 mag or .17 HMR

3. Another modern turnbolt rifle - perhaps a precision / 'tactical' style one?

4. AR15 or AR10 style rifle, decked out - about 100K choices you have there.

Why not an M1 Carbine to go with your M1 Garand?

What about an MSAR? You can find the older model stg.556 right around $1k now and that leaves you money left over to add something else. Another fun and unique gun you might consider is the FN PS90, I love mine!

You might also consider a Sig 556 or if your budget is $3k then maybe an FN SCAR.

Me personally if I had $3k to spend on a gun I would get either the MSAR or Sig 556 Patrol Rifle and an ACOG sight to go with it.

Heres a few that I've always wanted:

(Rifles)
Paratrooper M1 Carbine and 500 rounds of ammo, $1000+?
Mauser model 66 30-06, $1000+?
Any Pre-1900 Winchester Lever action
Bushmaster ACR, $2600+?
Nazi G41/43 8mm Semi-Auto, $2000+?
New Ruger No.1-S .300H&H Magnum, $1182

(Pistols)
Artillery Luger with stock and snail clip, $3000+?
New Remington 1911 R1 + 500 rounds .45ACP, $1000?
20's Smith & Wesson hand ejector, $500+?

(Misc)
Class III Paperwork and gun
Lots of ammo for what you already have
travel to all kinds of gun shows

I'd say a .22 pistol and also a large bore revolver. Of course you'd still have $2k left over. After that, I'd just shop around and see what kind of deals I could find. I think it would be fun to shop for guns with nothing particular in mind, just see what you can find.

I thank you guys for the suggestions as far as non guns, but those are allocated elsewhere in my budget. Thanks though, seriously.

No 10/22, and you're asking?

No M1 carbine, and you're asking?

No .50BMG?

Not to mention the countless AR-derivatives....

Ever just walk into the store and let something catch your eye? ...Nothing for learning what you want like a little tire-kicking.

Everything catches my eye. The question now though, is "what don't I have? What's something unique I can add?"

The 50bmg is a maybe, but none that I've ever seen fall into the $3000 range. The M1 carbine I could get but I have one in the hopefully not so near future (inheritance). While I have nothing against doubles, I'm trying to branch out as much as possible.

I do like the lever gun idea, wish I had never sold my 45-70. As is the Luger pistol idea. And the Ruger #1.... I'd need to find it in the "right" caliber though, which I don't know what it is yet.

Well in that case: http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/rfb.htm

A fully ambixedtrous .308 bullpup is pretty unique. Put a quality red-dot on there (Aimpoint or similar) and you'd have something new and interesting to play with that falls well within your budget. Bonus: it probably takes the same mags as your FAL.

Just to help you narrow down: think realistic. If your furthest (convientent) range is 100 yards, you should definetly not purchase a .50bmg.

For a sorta collection thing, you could start buying 1 of each countries rifle issued in ww2 or ww1 or civil war or whatnot.

That would be quite a nice collection and 3k would get you the common and some of the less common countries down.

Concerning the Kel-tec bullpup, you already have a fs2000, so unless you want .308 bullpup I would pass. (.223 performs just as well at 100 yards.)
