Never mind, my bad. They say it's "temporarily out of stock". You win.

I saved those excellent photos up above the first time ever I saw them. You all did good.

EMF (Early & Modern Firearms) has/had Pietta Griswold’s but they got a little pricey. I got one from them in April of ‘17 when they were on sale. I had ordered one from Cabella's in January ‘17 during a sale. After about ten days of the order I was notified by e-mail that it was on backorder and then two weeks after that they informed me they would not be reordering and to forget the whole deal. Imagine my disappointment, geez. In April of ‘17 EMF offered G&G’s for two bills so I went for it.

I got a good one. It’s my only brass frame. They say they inspect each revolver prior to shipment, for whatever that’s worth. Anyway, they sent me a beauty - inside and out. Being in-state I got hit with nearly 8% sales tax and their shipping charge is exorbitant so their special wasn’t all that special ... but the gun is.

I got the same runaround from Cabelas a few years back when they had an engraved Pietta Remington New Model Army on sale for $249. The gun looked really nice and you couldn't beat the price. Had the wife order me one for Christmas (this is like early November), and two weeks go by and she gets an email saying they're out of stock and on backorder. I said let it ride, it's worth the wait. A couple of more weeks go by and now the email says there are no more available, they're not gong to be getting any more in any time soon, and that I should just forget about it! How do you like them apples!

So I went with a Pietta New Model Navy that they had on sale that ended up being on backorder as well but at least I finally got it, some three months later!

Hi midland man -

Yea, I messed up. I’ll call EMF tomorrow and see if they are planning to reorder any Griswolds (800-430-1310 | 949-261-6611).

Expat keeps his hat and I’ll eat a bug.

Mr. Eyrie theyre in stock. I was on their wait list for one and was called a couple weeks back or so and told theyre back in stock

Also emf is amazing with their quality control inspections. They wear magnifying glass goggles and go through the gun with a fine toothed comb. I purchased a blemish london model 1851 navy at a huge discount at only 220 bux...its blemish was a single "dot" scratch. I couldnt even see it until i called them back to have them walk me through where the blemmish was, told friend about it and he got a blemish of the same model and the blemish was a tiny thin 1 millimeter long shallow scratch by the loading lever latch. Ive purchased guns from dixie gun works with larger blemmishes/scratches at full price. I wont even get into my issues with their quality control...or lack thereof. But EMF...they are just the absolute best when it comes to quality control on their guns. As a matter of fact i always call and ask for their discounted blemmished options...always a great deal and the blemish is virtually non existent to the naked eye. They also have better quality guns, all other retailers just sell whatever they get shipped to them but EMF gets top shelf stuff thats been assembled and inspected ( inspected by manufacturer and by emf before accepting the item as inventory to sell) to a higher standard due to EMF and Pietta being invested into one another. I believe i was told the owner of pietta is owner or part owner of EMF...but dont quote me on that...i dont remember the exact details.

well I just sent them a request to see if they might happen to have a blemished 1851 navy in the period correct 36 caliber so I hope they have one for a discounted price but if not then i'll order one from old south then! but thanks for telling me about these blemished deals! ;)

The Pietta Griswolds are real neat. Wonder if they won't rattle loose since they're a smaller .36? Just hard to say, but unlike most of the brass frame Colts they are historically accurate (at least mostly).

Yeah, it is handy. Did you notice it is temporarily out of stock? It has been that way with EMF for over 2 years. I have been keeping track, sir!

Got your hat handy? :)

Believe me, if one was available I would grab it if under $250 which is a stretch for a brasser, just for the barrel and cylinder. I do believe they are not made any more by Pietta.

Good try, Dogg!

Jim

If you don't shoot them with large loads suitable for a steel framed Navy, they will do just fine. My Pietta G&G just sits in a wood case to be admired. Why would a brasser .36 "rattle loose" as opposed to the brasser faux .Pietta 44 i851 guns?

I bought this one from Cabela's 3 years ago for $220 because they never offered one on sale.

After I got mine, Cabela's stopped offering any. Did I get the last one? Maybe Cabela's had a heads up from Pietta that production had ceased. Anyone's guess.

Speaking of oldsouth firearms...I have a pietta 1862 ny metro police...(basically an 1861 with short 5.5 inch barrel, nickel plated back strap and trigger guard with a half fluted cylinder) that i got from them...and i have to say they gave me amazing service too. I called after hours not knowing it was closed....but someone answered the call and answered all my questions even tho store was closed and werent on the clock. I actually thought it was an employee working but when i asked him to check something he explained he wasnt in the store and they had closed hours earlier and just answered the call anyway..guess it was call forwarding set up to ring on his personal phone. I felt bad that i took so much of his personal time after work hours...he could have just ignored the call or just told me to call during business hours..but instead he helped me. That very night i placed an order for the gun just to throw business their way and to show my appreciation. I was very impressed with their customer service. You dont see many businesses like that anymore.

well guys if you go look at old south at this very moment they had 8 but now they have only 7 left that's because I just ordered one with a box of .375 roundballs and would have gotten a box of .380 but I didn't see any on their website but I wished I had some .380 so I could see which one's during testing of accuracy to see which one's it likes the best! also guys what size of punch do I need to cut out wads as I have plenty of 1/8th inch durofelt and I have a set of hole punches from harbor freight as I been cutting out the ones for my 44c and soaking them in my homemade lube so any info would be appreciated! but yep guys I ordered the new 51' navy with a box of balls tonight and hope they will email me a tracking number when shipped! thanks guys!! ;)

Congrats on your purchase, midland man.

I gave EMF a call today and spoke with a lady named Jasmine. She said they are currently filling backorders on G&G’s (maybe Mr. Outlaw Kid’s) and will soon have more Griswold’s in for sale generally - but she was not sure when. I also asked if Pietta had stopped making Griswold’s. She chuckled, said no and assured me that Pietta still makes them.

They have a little catalogue that they ship with their merch. I asked if folks could ask for one without necessarily placing an order and she said sure, they would be glad to mail one out to requesters.

Dogg, that is certainly good news! Please keep us informed on the availability of the G&G from EMF. It would be well appreciated by all of us fanciers. Did you enquire about the selling price?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

well I called old south firearms today and talked about the quality of the traditions/pietta 51' navy's and he assured me that these are way better made pistols than the run of the mill you get from cabelas and even lee told me that he has one of the tradition 51 navys it has over 6k rounds thru it and the original springs were still going and so he told me these were the very best made revolvers you can get! so well see when it gets here plus guys I took my 3/8ths hole punch and made up a whole bunch of wads and soaked them in my homemade bore butter so I am ready when this new revolver gets here!! :)

well guys my pistol by the tracking number is pending and waiting for them to put it in the mail now they were supposed to shipped it yesterday but I called lee and he said it would ship in the morning due to a death in the family so I hope it gets here by Saturday!

I hope you have access to a regular ole Pietta 1851 Navy steel to compare it with. I think it might have better wood and case colors, but a run of the mill Pietta is a good gun.

When you get it, pictures and report, please!

well guys I put pics on my phone of this traditions 1851 navy 36c as it came in this morning but for some reason the pics are not going to my email so I could upload them so I guess i'll have to buy a camera or text these pics to someone's phone and they post them for me so pm me if one of you could do that for me! but I did take this one out this morning and with 25grs of 3f goex powder and my homebrew lubed wads 1/8th inch thick this pistol was right on with the sights! I was shocked plus I love this gun wow! it shoots lights out and way more fun than that fantasy 44 I have so now I am wanting to sell that fantasy 44 and buy another one of these traditions pietta 1851 navy 36 caliber pistol's, I love this period correct caliber so much better than I expected!!

Midland Man,
Sounds good. Are there any "Traditions" markings on the gun or box?
I just finished off a box of 100 Hornady round balls fired through my 36 cal Pietta 1851 Navy yesterday.

no traditions markings on the gun just pietta stuff they put on all their guns and so this pistol looks great! the only thing that has traditions on it is the box nothing else the styofoam insert has pietta on it!
