well academy has xd9's for $406.
but they dont have any in stock but the worn desplay.
every other shop is around $470.
what do you think about this.
i buy the worn xd9 its has not been fired, its new in every way but finish.
so i buy it for $406 and send it off for new finish such as macs shooting irons, black t, some sort of tefflon.
the savings on gun is about $70 that should cover just the slide finish, and i likely have to have it finished in the future anyway.

You might try sending an e-mail to Springfield, they might have you just send it in, you'll be out shipping and that'll be it. Won't know until you try!

New in box, never been touched, wrapped in plastic from the factory xd9's are $399 here. Don't buy a used one for $400+.

Academy just opened a new store here in Lubbock. Their ammo prices are pretty dandy, but their gun prices aren't competitive. Find a local dealer and do some wrangling with them. Chances are you'll come out a lot better.

New ones around here are $430. I sure wouldn't pay 406 for one with a beat up finish. I don't understand why everyone berates the finish on the XD. I have two of them, finish is fine on both. I militec'd both of the slides when new, have had no wear of the finish at all. I just wipe them off with oily rag once in a while, look just like new.

Carter's Country had an ad in the Houston Chronicle last week with the XD for $389. Don't know where you are in SE Texas but if you are close enough to one of their stores it might be worth at least a call to them to see if that price is still valid.

RCLEE, i live about 20 miles north of beaumont.
about 125 miles from the astrodome.
i pickup the chronicle every thursday for the carter ads, but i worked late lastnight and did not get to pick it up.

A new XD will have finish wear after riding in a holster for a week anyway.

Good thing I got one of the old sub-compact models  Carried it daily for close to a year now and no signs of any holster wear yet.

Welcome to THR rclee,

I too am in the Houston area and really like Carter Country, especially the Spring location.

I bought my first pistol at the Carter Country in Spring. I didn't know much about pistols back then but in retrospect I think the employee who sold it to me knew even less. Guy was a definite ninja wanna be who talked out of his @ss the whole time. I recognized that he was a ninja-wannabe at the time but I naively assumed that he knew what he was talking about since he worked at a gun store. Silly me. They did have a good selection though and decent prices.

we're lucky up here, most places have the XD's for $379, $389 for the XD9 sub and $429 ($439?) for the tacticals

Smitty,
The ad with the XD was from the 15th, not the 22nd. When I was in Katy Fwy CC on the 20th they had ads from 8th and 15th in the store. I have been looking at the CZ75B and the XD. That is why it caught my eye. The CZ was advertised on the 8th and the XD on the 15th.

Also if you miss the ads in the future you can get to them from the Chronicle's web site (www.chron.com).

And I am in no way affiliated with either CC or the Chronicle. Just trying to help out. I have been lurking here (and a few other sites) for a few weeks trying to get pros & cons of both pistols. Glad I could (finally) offer some input.

:) RCLEE thanks for the help on the chronicle. i didnt know about the site.
btw did you know about the astro hall (relient) gun show. ever been.
the next one is on feb 7-8-9.
i bought my first 1911 there awhile back.
i can recall going with my dad when i was a kid.the town i live in has about 1500 people, Houston seamed like a whole new world. and the astrodome looked like it would take forever to walk through.
i hope my kids see it that way and have the same memories.
now my father and i take my 6 & 3 year old sons to the same show.
