So...I recently came into about 200 pounds of ballestic gelatin powder. The good stuff, commercial grade - the same stuff the FBI uses. Got it from a buddy who had ordered it for a big art project, then that fell through and he was willing to part with it at a reasonable price. It retails for over $10 a pound. :what:

So, what would you do with it? Try and sell to someone local? Donate to a worthy gun club or range? Use it as trade goods with a local gunshop? I'm looking for ideas and suggestions here - this is more than I'd ever use.

Use it as trade goods with a local gunshop?

That would be assuming there was anyone in there smart enough to figure out how to mix it. If there was and they wanted it, let's see .. $10/pound, 200 pounds(is that mixed weight or powder weight?), that's $2000 worth of guns I'd say :what:

Like making jell-o

The instructions seem to be fairly straight-forward, basically it's like making a big pot of jell-o and then chilling it.

Maybe if I offered enough (2.2 pounds) for a standard 6"x6"x16" block to people for like $10 plus shipping...that'd still get me a pretty good gun...:D

Send it to JE223, he's made his ammunition test results available to us for free for some time. It would be great to see him get rewarded.

Mix it all.
Set up camera.
Drive your car into it.

LOL! Do that and put it on YouTube.
I've been wondering if my Chevy will reach that magical 12" of penetration the FBI recommends.

I second the motion that at least some should be dealt to JE223. He tests various calibers at his own expense and makes the results available to all here.
Maybe some of us could pitch in on a few pounds? I'm down for a sawbuck.

Yah thats actually a fantastic gesture that really shows the caliber of this community.

Plus we get to see him shoot some cool stuff :D

First, be very calm. Put away your guns. Invite the rest of us over.
Break out the guns, ammo, and the bbq. Lets have some fun!:D

There are quite a few recipes for Ballistc gel if you do a search of "HOW TO MIX BALLISTIC GELATIN?"

I like that suggestion...

OK, guys, thanks for the suggestion to turn some of it over to JE223 - I must admit, I haven't dug into most of the 'testing' threads where he's posted, so wasn't aware that there was someone here doing that kind of work.

I'll drop him a note and see if he's interested, then look into shipping.

Way ta be, Shadan7. I'm a big believer in 'passing it foward'.

Thank you for the kind words - I am glad to see that the information is useful to people. I just replied to the PM from the OP and we are working out the details. -You guys are awful... supporting a habit that I tried to kick twice now. :D

Oh yeah - there are two blocks in the refrigerator now - one label says '.303 British' and the other label says '.22 Magnum/.38 Snub'.

Thank you,

JE223

Thanks, Biker. I figure now that I've paid my 'community service', I'm entitled to cause a little trouble when I want.

Anyone who's offered to help with the shipping - tell you what, just kick in a donation to JE223. He's got the set-up on his site to do so, and it'll help further the cause that much more. I'll pop for the shipping on one of these kegs to him, just consider it my good deed for the week.

But oh, if you want to thank me...go read my book. Some 1300 people have downloaded it in the last six weeks or so - they can't all be wrong. ;)

You've *already* caused trouble, Mister 7! JE223 has made no mention of testing the Winchester 225gr Silvertip in .45LC...

Revenge will be mine, oh yes...it will be mine.

BTW...If my 56k connection and my dino 'puter can stand the load, I'd like to check out your book. Thanks...

Biker:)
