Ok, this may sound a little strange, but bear with me. I was looking reloading 45 (i load for several other calibers) and started to order all my components. I was given a box of CCI large pistol from my neighbor who loads 45 acp and he told me he could not use them with his 45. He said it takes small pistol primers. I looked at the powder company sites as well as my two reloading manuals and they all state large pistol. When I asked him about this he said they don't fit in his brass (i believe he stated federal brass). He mentioned that the brass was crimped and he tried everything he could to get them to fit, but they are too large. Something about this just does not sound right. Can you use small pistol primers? When we shot the other day he had so much powder all over his face it looked like he got mugged by a bag of chocolate chip cookies:p...Just looking for some advice...Thanks

Probably Federal "Leadfree" ammo.

Those cases used sm. pistol primers, crimped in.

The lead-free primer compound produces higher internal pressure, and the lg. primers were causing breach-face damage/peening in some guns.

Look inside a case and the flash-hole will be about 1/8" dia also to release primer cup pressure faster.

It's best to just throw them away, rather then fight them when they get mixed with your normal brass.

+1

Your primers are fine, your brass is bad... But brass is free, so find yourself some regular brass and try again...
