A S&W 681-1 w/ 4" barrel and Hogue Mono Grip for $250.

It looks like its been sitting in a safe for the last 10 years. No scratches and feels really solid.

Just bought it yesterday.

#1: Performance Center S&W No. 3 "Schofield" with oak display case for $500, unfired with all the papers, including warranty card.

#2: Commercial SKS, NIB with 200 rds of Norinco ball for $105.

#3: EAA "Witness" 9x19, LNIB (50 rds through it) and 3 high-cap MecGar mags for $200. Has been extremely accurate and 100% reliable for almost 7K rds. What ever that "Wonder" finish is, it sure wears well.

#4: S&W Mdl 13 4". 85% blue but excellent bore and action for $120. Even shoots to POA with 158 gr +P HPs!

HK USPf .45 for 425.00. This dealer in b'ham used to put weekly specials of used inventory in this one case there would be 2 or 3 good deals in there at a time. Well, I couldn't pass that one up.

Taurus 3" 941 stainless .22wmr 175.00

Ruger Redhawk back in the early 80s. Couldn't find one in 7.5" stainless. Reason was Ruger's blue line was running at the time. No stainless guns for several months. Couldn't let my PTP expire, so I started calling around for used ones. Found one for $350. Went to check it out and it was pristine. Shop owner told me the guy traded it in for a .357.:D Figures. He couldn't have put more than 20 rounds through it. Good deal for me at the time, since I really had no choices.

Package deal, four handguns for $1300. Sold three for a total of $1400 and kept the 70 Gold Cup!

Best deal money-wise: Picked up an unfired Colt 1911A1 pre-70 series for $450; sold it a few years later at a gunshow for $850.

Best deal "shooting value": bought a Brolin Arms 1911a1 at a local gunshow for $350. Gun was in great condition and had a Kart barrel. Brolins had a mixed rep and I didn't know much about them but I decided to give it a go. Turns out to be one of my best shooting .45's I've got(well, in the top 3 anyway). Someone must have spent some $$ getting this gun to shoot well and had enough. Their loss was my gain.

A model 586 S&W, little bit of holster wear, but otherwise in great shape, gave $200 for it and a Bianchi holster.

About three months after that, I picked up a LNIB Walther PPK/S for about $300. Some little old lady had brought in the shop after her hubby died. My guess is the gun sat on the night stand for a good long while, with very little use. I don't know how old it would have been, but it was an Interarms gun, with the serial # of 008xx.....

45 colt Mountain gun, pretty much nerw in the box for $359.00,ruger mk II 5.5" target with a gold dot front sight and trigger job for $200.00 that looked unfired.

About 5 years ago, shortly after I started into shooting sports I came across what I considered (at the time) to be a fair deal. What I happened into was a mint condition, with all the paperwork in the factory box, early import H&K P9S with 4 factory mags. For the paltry sum of $550.

Best part was I had no idea what I had purchased/found until several months later when I showed it to a friend that has been collecting guns from the time he could walk. I only knew (at the time) it was an H&K and they were supposed to be a pretty good firearm!

That P9S is today worth easily twice what I paid and is the best shooting 9mm I own!

Would have to be my second EG Makarov for $150.00 with 2 mags and all the accessories including a shoulder holster.

My best two deals:

1) A T/C Contender frame and forearm with a 10" .22LR Match barrel with a Tasco PDP red dot sight in mint condition. $400

2) An S&W 681-M with Atlanta PD markings in very good condition: $175.00

Inherited, S&W 1917, Colt 1911, & Colt Officer target. All made prior to 1918... Best part the family member is still with us...

Ok, this is going to skew the prices a bit but the best deal I ever got on a used handgun was FREE.

Had an acquaintance who had a Star PD in very good condition. Never shot it, didn't want to shoot it, wife wanted it out of the house. I told him to go to the gunshop and put it on consignment. He didn't want to go to the trouble so he gave it to me. I offered him some cash (OK, I'm cheesey so I told him I'd give him $100 for it) but he didn't want it.

I guess free qualifies. A friend of mine gave me an old, beat up model 10 police revolver and told me if I could clean it up, I could have it.

I cleaned it up and gave it to my Dad. It must be pretty old because it does not have a date stamped on it. It looks pretty slick now and shoots just fine.

When I was in the army in 1975, I bought a Colt Combat Commander 9mm with the satin nickel finish for $85 from another soldier. Even in those days that was a great deal!

not a handgun, but preban Benelli M1 shotgun with pistol grip and shot extention for $600 at the local pawn shop.

My best buy was actually my first handgun. A 6" Royal Blue Colt Python with an extra set of Herrett Target grips for $375.00. That is one gun that I will not part with.:)

Best used deal

It's a toss up between my .22 Colt Peacemaker that I bought in brand new condition (probably unused) 1977 for $50 or the S&W Chief's Special purchased the same year for $90. The Peacemaker is a fun gun but the Chief still rides with me almost every day.

Just found this thread - -

- - - Worth keeping alive, just for grins.:D

Several pretty good deals over the years.

Lang ere - - Late 1960s, probably. Rem Rand 1911, 60% exterior, flawless function, with GI holster and pistol belt, for $15. Even back then, it would have been a good deal for $90.

1999 - - Tricked-out model 19, P&R - - Target trigger & hammer, wh outline rear, red ramp front sights, two speedloaders, Don Hume holster and loader case, 60 rounds ammo. $150.

The deals are there - - You just gotta have patience and keep some cash on hand. (I'm chronically short of both commodities.):p

Best,
Johnny

Ruger Mark II Stainless Government Competition for $60.00.

The gun was about 6 months old and owned by my neighbor. I was with him when he bought it, I put probably half of the rounds through it from day one. He decided he wanted a Beretta Neos and said he would sell it to me for a steal which he did. The only thing wrong with it was that he rarely cleaned his guns so that first cleaning was a bit tough.

The gun has never malfunctioned and is way more accurate than I am. So basically I got a LNIB with all papers, scope rings, mags etc. Mark II that I knew the history of from purchase for $60.00. Not bad. Not a NIB P7M13 for $400 bucks :scrutiny: .....JERK.....:scrutiny: :D but not bad.
