Win Model 56 .22 short only

My dad gave me his Winchester Model 56 .22 short rifle in 1956 when I was 11 years old. He had acquired it in 1930, when he was 13.

About 8,300 Model 56s (in both short and long) were made betweem 1926 and 1930. Of those, about 1,200 are said to be short-only. These are exceptionally rare--and they are excellent little rifles. Mine has the stainless steel barrel.

cz75B. Still have it.
Will never let it go. Bought Kadet kit to fit it also....

I acquired 2 guns at the same time the day before my 18th birthday. A pistol grip Winchester 1300 Defender in 12ga and a Taurus 605BCH .357 5 shot revolver.

I miss them guns.

The first 'real gun' that I bought is a Remington Model 514 single shot .22. I paid $22 for it in about 1960. I was shooting a Crosman 140 .22 cal pellet gun before that. That pellet gun would kill rabbits at a pretty fair range.

My first gun was a Diasy Red Ryder.
My first firearm was a first year 1903 Winchester. AKA Grandpa's gun, though ammo is hard to find (.22 Winchester Automatic) she gets out every 5-10 years to have a box run through her.

Winchester 190 22lr almost 40 years ago from my parents for Christmas. Still have it and it is in nice condition. With the price of ammo, I have been shooting a lot more 22 these days and was surprised how well it still shoots. I just wish I could see as good as I could when it was new.;)

Glenfield model 25 that I got for my 12th birthday. Still have it, treasure it, and shoot it.

Ok, first "learnt on" would be a Singer 1911A1.

Yes, arched mainsprings are a feature of my subsequent life.

First owned was a Series 80 Officer's which was high and left until I got an arched m/s housing <g> <sigh>

Ok, in spirit of thread, first I bought that I was disappointed in would be a stainless AMT hardballer, which wound up traded for a sweet M1903A3--and both I and the deal thought we made out like bandits.

Wow! This topic brings back painful memories.... my first firearm was a Savage 20ga Single Barrel. I flinch today because of that kicking mule! My Dad wanted brother and me to hunt with him. Kick as it might (child abuse), we burned a lot of rounds thru those little guns. I remember buying dove loads at Montgomery Ward for 1.88 a box.

Ithaca single shot saddle gun. .22 short, long, long rifle. It had a very short throw lever that looked like a Winchester but the the thing was actually a full-fledged Martini action. Had to cock the hammer with your thumb on each shot.

For a single shot, it was very fast to reload. I never times myself but I could get off many rounds in a very short period of time. It had a full ejector so all I had to do was drop in a new round. The falling block had a groove so all you had to do was literally drop a .22 pointed the right way and it would all but slide right in.

Great little gun.

The first gun I shot was my Dad's .22 short pump action Remington, I think. When I was 12 he got me a .22 Magnum pump, (I think that one was a Winchester) Dad really loved that rifle, but I never did. The length of pull was a little too long for my young arms.

When we went shooting I usually ended up with his Universal M1 Carbine. We sort traded rifles. 34 years later I still have that Carbine and the single shot .410 he got me for Christmas that year.

first gun was a .357 magnum

i bought my first handgun in '79..... it was a s&w model 13-2 4"..... i bought some ammo at the loacal k-mart and went to the berm to shoot it.... i had no hearing protection and the first shot felt like someone slapped me in the ears.....:eek: i shot the rest of that cylinder and didn't shoot again until i had earplugs................. everyone says to start of with some kind of .22 rimfire but i got along ok with the magnum..........................
