My very first gun was a Winchester 20 gauge shotgun - single shot. I remember looking at it every time I went into the local OTASCO. Best I can recall - I was in the 7th grade when I bought it (think it cost about $50).
Although my father had been in the military (won shooting awards) and had a 12 gauge shotgun of his own - for some reason he was opposed to the purchase but not so much that he would deny me my desire (God bless him for that). I remember his exact words today. "Son, you can buy that gun but I can't promise you when you'll be able to shoot it - we don't have a place to shoot right now - you know." I didn't even care - I just knew I had to have that gun.
It hung on a gun rack that I had made in a shop class for about 3 years before I shot it for the first time. That was one of the best days of my life. Actually, my brother-in-law took me out shooting it. I remember running about 3 boxes of shells through it. I remember the barrel getting hot as I shot one shell after another. Still have it today - in great condition.
My first rifle was an Ithaca M-49 in .22 s,l,lr(Thanks Dad!). My first pistol was an Arminius HW7 in .22 lr,magnum(Thanks Grandpa!). I still have them...pictured below. My first personal purchase was a new Walther PPKS in .22(Thanks Self!...and Mom&Dad for tuition!)
