Sadly, I already have. Well, i didn't give them up, they were taken from me. In my state, I can no longer purchase, borrow or inherit any centerfire semi-automatic rifle with an easily detachable magazine plus any one of numerous features such as a flash supressor, bayonet lug, thumbhole stock, pistol grip etc.
Furthermore, I had to register my rifle that met the above criteria with the state. Failure to do so would have been a felony. I must have proof of registration with me when I shoot it. It can only be fired at a designated range, I cannot plink with it out in the desert. Doing so will cause it to be confiscated. My sons, as long as they live in this state, cannot buy my rifle from me, nor can they legally inherit it from me. When I die, the rifle must be turned over to the state ags office or illegally transported out of state and legally sold to an out of state buyer. Somehow, any .50 cal. rifles fell into this "assault weapon" classification and the same rules apply.
Oh yeah, I cannot buy any magazines for centerfire firearms (either rifle or handgun) with a capacity of more than ten. I take really good care of my mags now - thats for sure.
I can only buy one handgun a month and it must be on an approved safety list.
I am sure there are more, I just can't remember them all.
My job requires that I have a clean criminal record, my wife works in the criminal justice system. We cannot afford to mess around with these laws, so we comply - despite the obvious injustice in them. I have seen these laws enacted in the time since I have been an adult. They have had no impact on crime, the bad guys still do wahatever they want.
We have all already given up some of our rights. We can't have full auto or silencers to name a few. Brothers and sisters, its gonna get worse before it gets better.
