Now that i have the front sight back on my stainless i have this little 4" section of the front of the barrel that i cut off.

Its a hair under 4" long, still has the dovetail front and the 45° crown, stainless steel.

What would you do with this?

Heh, heh..... up this way if I were to cut a chamber into that bit of "pipe" or cap the end to make it into a muzzle loading barrel I'd be branded as a criminal by our laws.

I have to agree that this just begs for a project to be started. Perhaps use this as a poor man's boxlock percussion pistol? A few years back I saw something about a boxlock action that was pretty easy to build. The sights would need to be offset slightly but that's not a big deal. Or the box lock action could perhaps have one side a little thicker than the other so the offsetting of the sights would only need to be very minimal?

Sights? A box lock derringer is an up-close-and-personal SD gun... we don' need no stinkin' sights.

The bit of barrel that I lopped off I use as a training aid to show folks what we are talkin' about when we talk about rifling... either at Hunter Safety classes or at historic venues when talking to the public.

Practice cutting dovetails on it with a file so you don't need to send any more out to be smithed. Sort of like the other stub that you sent me!

(and thanks again, pard)

"Do you have the tools to do it?"

I could only wish! Though I may be mechanically inclined and enjoy tinkering with things, you'd not want me working on it!

Ide like to see some one make something useful with it but i could give it to my local gun range they do give classes and it would be a nice piece to handle often. The stainless would hold up well to lots of handeling.
