I'm interested in hearing from those who have collections exceeding 20 guns. Those of you who have experienced tragic boating accidents may be able to speak from personal experience.
Assuming your collections are adequately insured, how much of your collection would you replace if you experienced a total loss (fire, theft, etc.) and your insurance company handed you a fat check? If there are things you wouldn't replace (excluding things that might be irreplaceable), why do you keep those things in your collection now?
Personally, I doubt I'd replace half of what I have. I've amassed a lot of historic pieces over the years that were fun to find and buy, but I don't really use them to any extent. I've not sold them thus far because I seem to have a sentimental attachment to the "collection" and I see it as an investment as well. I also have some sentimental guns I wouldn't replace. I rarely use most of them because I have much better guns to shoot, but I just can't part with them because of how long I've had them, who gave them to me, etc.
