Whats a Good Gun for a Group Buy?

I just shot some flavor of 1894 in .45Colt. Nice little carbine...

I pretty much despise the Colt brand name, but that's built on what they did to their Civvy AR platform. For the right price I could probably be happy with one of their other products.

How much to upgrade that $499 Commander to Stainless and/or lightweight?

I need:
  • Lever-action .357mag
  • Colt S80 Combat Commander
  • AR 15, flat-top

I'm up for just about anything, though, as I'd like to be part of a group-buy for just about anything.

XOXOX

hmmm?? NRM Colt?? To pricey for everyone's favorite horror movie buff/holster maker..:(

Put me in the vote for a Saiga 12 or that Ak thingy that shoots the 5.45 rounds

I am
Daveno longer making holsters with one hand B.:D

Now on the other hand Blue new rollmark colt commanders for $499 plus shipping? TThat a gfood deal?

Sounds good to me, that's what I was going to look for at the next show in September. Either that or a 9mm 1911.

Which model number are those Colts?

If ya could get your hands on a pile of police trade ins i bet you could move a few pre-moonclipped k-frames.

Really though, if the price were right i could go for either a .94 in .357 or virtually any Colt 1911 which is probably a better choice considering that a lot of locals get huge markups on Colts.

So I'm guessing the NRM is a revolver? .357? Enligten me. I'm not that familiar with Colts, aside from their AR-15 and few older revolvers.

Blue NRM gunmint model at $499. I'm in, don't even bother asking again.

Just tell me where to send the money:D

The freight thing seems kinda odd, moving a gun from CT to AK back to the lower 48 does seem a round about way to manage the supply chain.

Can you arrange for your shop to be the "bill to" and set up our FFLs as the "ship to" location. You could negotiate a good (killer?) price FOB Colt or your best distributor, and we could each add appropriate freight to our ffls.

Just a wilddriveextrashippingcostsoutofthesystemalaska idea.

Seems we're leaning heavy towards a blued Colt NRM.

The mind-control rays have been working.

Seriously: If we do a full-size, NRM Series 80 Colt for a good price, just tell me where to send the money.

No commander, please!!!

:)

What styles other than govt/commander are there?

You don't have any of those Glock 1911's available, do ya? :D :D :D

I think we should try to keep it as simple as possible, so one or maybe two options.

Great!

Thanks so much for doing this, Wild!

Any idea what the shipping costs will be?

I could maybe justify the stretch for a Marlin 1894 (as my wife is also interested in that gun), but I don't have much interest in a 1911 style pistol (or any pistols) at the moment. I have at least a couple long guns higher on the list of priorities at the moment.

Earlier, Wildalaska said:

Marlin is tough on discounts...weve ordered 100 rifles from them at one fell swoop and maybe got 6 points on distrib cost...Most distribs on Marlin work on 10 points...so your figures are in a few bucks..

Might as well just buy the Marlin from your local shop.

He also says he can get a better deal for a group buy from Colt.

# 1 rule in supply chain management and supplier negotiations- Keep it simple. One product, one shipment, Gov't models please.

Another idea to get better cost may be to offer your distributor payment in advance. I'm not sure what credit terms you have, but the cost of money is usually more money. They may be willing to offer a further price concession if you pay in advance or even pay COD vs. regular terms. The cash infusion may be worth more to them than the gross margin.

Just some more thoughts running through my head alongside visions of little blue horseys:D
