My 'kid' isn't interested in anything other than a Glock 9mm. (I am NOT a 'plastic is fantastic' gun owner and my collection reflects that!) He cannot be swayed and I'd rather have him carry Glock than nothing. However, my knowledge, concerning prices, is very limited on these. THR has always been an excellent site for answers, so, teach me... what can I consider a good buy and what is considered too much? We are near Springfield in Central Illinois if that makes a difference. He probably wants the smallest gun he can conceal even though he has large hands. I'm certain a Police trade-in would be acceptable for him.

Thanks. I appreciate the help.

I bought my 2nd Generation G19 used for $300
Averages now on a used 3rd or 4th Generation G19 is $400-$550 depending on condition.
I'm using the G19 because it is best compromise in size of gun to size of hand.

gtdist.com has some of the best prices

If you join GSSF you can get the GSSF price but you need to join for two years otherwise you dont get the certificate until the end of the year.

gtdist also has law enforcement prices (im sure a store in your area has law enforcement pricing too) which will let you see what the floor on pricing is.

He should go rent some guns first to see what fits best in his hand. That is by far the most important consideration. you can explain to him the reason glocks are popular is because they are a very good value, not because they are the best gun.

A lot is regional and it depends on the exact model. A standard G-17, 19, 22,26, 27 or 23 will sell used for around $350-$400 depending on condition, nite sites etc.. About $500+tax on a new version. The larger guns in 45 ACP or 10mm about $50 more.

At least around here.

You should be able to pick up gen 3's (26, 19 or 17) for under 500..

Gen 4's bump the price a little because of an extra mag < 550.00.

Definitely dont over pay for a glock.. you can pick them up anywhere.

The greatest factors are how it looks and whether or not it has night sights. Around here, used Glock 19's and 17's tend to go for $400-425 without night sights. Add $25-50 if the gun has night sights. Guns with well worn slides will cost $25-$50 less.

Agreed with the previous posts. When I was looking for a g19 via online auctions last year I was seeing LE trade ins with worn slides and gouged frames for $250, new gen4 guns for $500, and nice barely used gen3 guns for $375-$450. I ended up paying $415 for a nice gen3 with the rough textured frame.
I would look for a nice gen3, unless you can find a smoking deal on a gen4, but that's just my preference.

GunsAmerica.com ....

I like GunsAmerica.com . It's free to use, offers a check of styles/brands & retail prices and it's simple to use. I've purchased 03 handguns thru the website/FFL holders & my good friend got a new LCR .38spl +P revolver that way too. :D
JGsales.com of AZ & Bud's are okay too.
For Glocks Id say a new(unused) gen 04 model will be about $500-550.00. Glock 34/35 models or the new 41 .45acp might be near $600.00 NIB(new in box).
Used or LE trade in Glocks; 17/22/23 go for $300-450.00 mostly depending on condition & if they have night sights(in decent shape).
Used Glocks can be okay. You can find new parts, barrels, springs, magazines, etc. :)
I saw a good offer on a KY state agency Glock 27 gen 04 .40S&W pistol. It had night sights & 3 Glock magazines. The KY state troopers wanted a 2nd gun/back up but either couldn't budget the new Glock 27s or the had a surplus.
I like the Glock 23 .40 but I might get one of these 27s in early 2015.

In my neck of the woods $529 to $549 with the 3rd magazine included in the box of the Gen4s pushing the cost up a bit. Those are new prices; used prices can vary wildly depending on your " dickerin' " skills and how badly the seller needs the money.

last week, my youngest son bought a gen 1 #17 for $300 with 1 extra mag.
the only thing was that someone used a soldering iron to stipple/texture the grip. they did an excellent job, but still.

Thanks for the info! We should be able to play the dealer's game now that we know what his 'hand' might be.
