I found a S&W model 27, pinned & recessed, pachmar grips but a lot of the blueing is worn off. The action is very smoot and the lockup seems tight. Is this worth $500?

Too many unanswered questions. Barrel length, 27-2 or no dash, condition? Photo's would be helpful.

The M27 came with 3.5, 4, 5, 6, 8.75inch barrels.
Right now the 3.5 and 5 inch are the hot thing, especially the 3.5.
"Coke Bottle" or "Cokes" grips are THE hot thing.
The 6inch is very common. The 4inch a litle less.
A blue 6 inch in excellent condition is worth $400-500.
The shorter lengths bring more.
Minty 3.5's are up over $1K
Sounds like your find may be a bit worn so it would make for a great shooter.
In some areas, classic S&W's are a tough find.
IMO, thats a bit too much.

$500 was what I gave for an excellent condition 27-2 P&R nickel plated with 8 3/8 barrel without box a couple of months ago at local gun shop. Seems high for a common 27 with finish issue but more info needed.

I found this Ford Mustang for sale. Wheels aren't original and the paint is faded. Is it worth $5,000?

See the problem?

What year 27?

Is it actually a Model 27 (made 1957-1960) or is it a 27-1. 27-2. 27-3, etc?

What is the barrel length? A 3.5" 27 will bring about twice what the 8" version will fetch.

Can you be more specific on the amount of wear? Just bluing worn off or is there rust and pitting?

Box? Accessories?

We need much more info to offer any serious advice.

Same question, different gun

Model 27, no dashes, coke bottle grips, nickle finish, no pitting, good barrel, yellow front sight insert. 3-1/2 inch barrel.

$$$ ???

More details

Thanks guys. Yes, I was a little vague. It's a 6 inch barrel, adjustable sights -- no white outline or anything fancy. The barrel looked pretty good and the lockup was tight enough. It's got the narrow, grooved trigger and small hammer tang. I didn't check for a dash number. It just didn't look as pretty as I'd like to see a blue gun. The left side of the barrel and places around the cylinder had the blueing worn off. I guess I'm dreaming to find one for $350, but $475-$500 seemed a little high.

$1200-1500? Maybe more since it is an early 27 with a scarce and desirable barrel length, and very desirable stocks.

Hmmm, and I paid $225.00 for it in 1974. Also got a set of Magna grips with it at the same time. Prefer the Coke-Bottle though.

My wife might get rich some day off me, if she gets an honest appraisal of my firearms. :D She doesn't like guns though. Be just like her to sell them for $50.00 each! :banghead:

And when I die, and when I'm gone...

The way I figure it, if she did not care enough to know in the first place while I was alive, then if she gets taken after I die, there won't be much that I can do about it. :fire:

Trouble is, this town I live in is way to small to find a girlfriend who does care!

PS, the fun thing is that by her not caring, I have managed to get a few more guns than I would have otherwise since she can't tell the new ones from the old ones. I can at least have fun in life! :D:rolleyes:

PPS, anybody want to care and guess the price of a Model 36 Nickle square butt 2"? :D

For a 6" 27-2 (most common) in the condition you describe I would look to pay $350-$400 or keep looking.
