What's coming home Friday?

Beretta M413!
(Stock images, but mine looks pretty much identical.)

After cashing out my range lane the other day, I was showing my buddy Peter my $100 Remington rescue .22 when he snapped his fingers and told me to wait a minute while he ran to the stock room. He came back with this really clean old folding shotgun they had just released from trade-in jail. I'd never see this model before, but I was looking for a simple break-action folding rifle or shotgun so I flipped over the tag-

The bad news: Its a 16 gauge.
The good news: It's a Beretta......and it said $125 on the tag.
Peter said a few folks had already walked away from it because of the chambering so give him $100 and call it a day.
Thats right, a $100 Beretta- and best of all it DOESN'T require restoration.

Ive already got some 16 Ga. shells on the way, along with .410 and .22 adapters......😁
Wow!

Nice find!

My FIL in Italy has one of those. He said they are popular down in Sicily. They saw chop them down for ease of concealment.

They actually have an Italian name for it

Lupara
Haha. Sweet!
I do plan to chop it to 18.5" so it stows better when folded- and to remove the choke restriction.

NIGHTLORD40K

Good one!

I remember seeing those at a LGS when I was a kid, thinking for a beginner starting out, having a Beretta anything would have still have been really cool!

Why? She seems perfect as she is, you wanna cut down a shotgun get a mossberg.lol
Well, I don't have a real need for a fowling gun, and its not a high $$ collectible- but I do have a requirement for a backpack foraging piece. Plus, itd be nice to have the option of shooting 16ga. slugs- it's currently a full choke.
I dunno, it's not set in stone. I'm persuadable.....

Some would assure you that the 16 is the sweet spot between the bumptious 12 and the effete 20. Nice gun. Interesting to see the knurling on the tube where it enters the monobloc. Do you suppose they just pressed the barrel in, rather than welding or sweating the two? Anyway, enjoy!
I noticed that too. I'll look closer when I get it home.

The 16 gauge rules! I have three of them.

Yeah the shells are pricy, not as much variety and often tough to find, and the 16 falls between two super popular shotgun gauges that completely bracket it (leading to its lack of popularity anymore), but it is a sweet shooting shell for a ton of different uses.

Let us know what you think after you get a chance to shoot it a bit.

Stay safe.

Ammo availability is pretty good right now, it seems- though anything other than steel birdshot is up over $.80/rnd. I've got a box of #5 lead birdshot and some #1 buck on the way. Also ordered a Lil' Skeeters' .410 adapter (since I already stock .410) and a Short Lane .22lr insert. Getting really silly, Ive got a .410 to .380 Chazsel barrel that might work as well, lol.

3” .410 is non existent here. 2.5” is an occasional visitor to the LGS shelves, but it’s about $1 a shot. 😩

Luckily I have a couple of cases of 3” .410 on the shelves, my Rem 1100 likes those a lot.

The .380 insert sounds like an interesting one, that is another thing I’d like to hear about if you double up on the inserts!

Stay safe.

@NIGHTLORD40K I’m not even going to sugar coat this… that is One UGLY GUN!

I’m cracking up right now… from your statements of “I would never buy a Tec9” but you bought that thing! lol

You know I’m just messing with ya!

And here she is in the flesh-

Aside from a few little dents in the wood, the gun is like brand new. I cant find a barrel date code, though- it might be under the foregrip.
Best guess is mid '60s through late '70s production at this point.

I found an AR "pistol" case for it that fits like a glove when folded, so Ill probably leave the barrel as-is for now. Im thinking I could probably get a 20GA adapter and fire those slugs even through the full 16GA choke without issues.....

Nice. Pretty much the only shotgun shell still available on the shelf during Covid at Walmart was 16 gauge.

I've shot with a 16 gauge single shot shotgun, it was good to to go. Lighter recoil than a 12.

OK…. that’s actually nice! Nice wood too

NIGHTLORD40K

Congrats on the "Buy of the Century"! She's a real beauty that's for sure!

I have always felt that a single shot shotgun had a certain understated elegance to it while being an excellent example of utility and purposefulness.
