Howdy Folks-

T'was just wondering, when you purchase a handgun NIB or USED do
you seek out a unique serial number if available? Say certain numerals,
or alphabetic characters in a weapons serial number. I recall on one
particular occassion while rambling thru my boss'es USED inventory,
I came across a hardly used (98 per center) Smith & Wesson model
442 that began with DAN xxxx~! Needless to say, I didn't really need
it as I already owned a S&W 642; but I bought it because of the fact
that most likely that will never happen again in my lifetime. Nowdays,
I like to tell a little fib that goes like this; "Oh YES indeed I had S&W
make that one especially for me"~! So, I am asking do you have a
eye for a particular serial number? If so, I would like too know what
it is. :scrutiny: ;)

Serial Number

I had 10x Gunsmithing do a ground up full house custom 1911. I specified that the serial number be my initials. No problem as the frame was Caspian, and they offer custom serial numbers as an option. The rest of the slide is totally blank and I love it. Understatement has a voice all it's own when it comes to firearms. Caspian also did several custom machining operations on their end that saved a bundle ie ball cuts, flat serrated sighting plane, Novak sight cuts, 20 LPI checkering, and custom serial number. They do great work at a great price.

In the many hundreds of guns I have owned over the past 40+ years I have never had one with with an odd or significant serial number.

The only time I ever bought by serial number was a Llama .380 with number 12345, but that was just a matter of choosing that one of several identical guns. I won't go out of my way to buy some special serial number, or be swayed by someone who tells me that No. 123 has a "unique" serial number; so does 1765294.

When my dept got our new Glocks to replace the ones that were having functioning problems my range officer dug thru the pile of new Glock 22 and found one that happened to have my car number as the serial number. That was kind of nice since I was retiring in 6 months and we can buy our duty gun when we retire. It's kind of a nice momento from when I was working to have my Glock with my car number.
He also found both my LTs and a couple of MSgts Glock 22s with their car numbers.

The only numbers and letters I look for are the following: .45ACP ;)

Seriously - no, it's not something I look for at all, but if I were to have something custom-made, I might be tempted to ask for something specific to me, although I have no idea what what that might be.

W043722, My m4 throughout my deployment
1028825, My M68 as well.

Any special meaning? Nope, its what the armorer handed me, but damned if I don't have that number etched in my head forever. She dun me good.

Maybe someday I'll get a nice over-under for my dad with custom serial number of DJV19-3-1959 for him. Other than that, probably not.
