What's in the back of YOUR safe?

A 16ga. Mossberg bolt-action shotgun, with C-Lect choke. Early '70s. My first centerfire firearms from my Dad. Nothing wrong with it. I just choose the 12ga. SXS for upland, and the 870 for waterfowl. I guess I keep it for sentimental reasons. No value as a trade-in.

Well, it wasn't my safe, it was my buddy's, but he found one of my guns. He was cleaning it out a few months ago and came across a early '50's vintage Colt Commander that I had asked him to hold on to for me about 15 years ago (when I didn't have a safe of my own).

I originally bought the thing back in the mid/late '70's, and in all the various selling/buying/trading I've done over the years, just sort of forgot about it. That was certainly a nice surprise!

It doesn't quite work like that here but in the closet that's inside of the safe reside an Enfield Jungle Carbine, 4 assorted Mausers in various states of repair, and a Rossi double that currently is a single shot.

16ga Lefever "A" grade SxS made in 1935. belonged to my Paternal grandfather, i am told he bought three shotguns that day all identical except for gauge in 12, 16, and 20. it's there because it's the only thing i currently own that belonged to him, eventually i'll receive what's left of his tools (he was a Cotton Gin mechanic) but for now the shotgun is all i have.

as for why it never gets fired, well it's as built no recoil pad, and it seems that all of the 16ga fodder i can find is made so that it will run all those Browning "Sweet sixteen" auto chuckers and frankly loads that will make those things work reliably, when placed in a nice light responsive upland style SxS just plain HURT after more than few rounds.

1950's era Browning A-5

Savage 65A. I started refinishing the stock about...oh, 2 years ago now. It just needs sanding sealer and linseed oil, but I never do it. It just sits there. It's on "the list" of things to do. Right behind about 5,000 other things.

Hmmmm, (Scrounging noises)

An old Chinese copy of a Browning 1900 that a got dug up out a co-workers yard when they put in a water main. He bought the house in Cicero (can you say "Al Capone"), IL, three years ago. This thing had been in the gound quite a while, so I bet there's a story behind it......

A POS $10 Chinese air rifle that I bought about 15 years ago, for no good reason other then it was $10. It was never accurate.

A old, old Winchester .22 pump, barrel has been shot out so it's wildly inaccurate. We used to lock it into a benchrest and bet on what ring it would keyhole through....at 25 yards. :what: :what:

Yep, these are "buyback fodder".

My back corner "step headed red child" is a Mossberg bolt .22 that fired on closing the bolt last time it went on a field trip...so it is being punished. I'm afraid it will cost more to fix than its worth... :( . Maybe I just need to take it apart and CLEAN it. Might help...couldn't hurt.
Mark.

Some good, some not so good...

I have a friend's grandfather's Winchester 270 Pump .22, my Marlin bolt action .22 that my grandfather gave me. Nice gun but the bullet guide is broken off and you need to manually feed it to shoot. Next to that I have my 1960's Browning Superposed 20 ga O/U (My Baby) and my Stevens 311 16ga SxS. They're back there because they only get handled when it's hunting time. :)

i just rearanged today and there is a never issued SKS that i bought for $99 that shoots 8/10" groups at 100" :uhoh: 2 mac 90's that accually shoot pretty well and both have sweet triggers but i guess there mostly there for if TSHTF a mosin nagent, a mod. 94 win pre 64 that i got when my gramps died. i take it out occasionally and keep it oiled up. a mohawk 600 in 6MM that i got for my wife but it kicks harder than my M1A's so that was pointless. a snubby .38 also for my wife but she never shoots it. S&W 1006 i still love her, but, with two beutifull 1911's she is feeling neglected. and a Rem. 1100 that i bought with a 12" barrel (yes it was/is legally purchased) that i put a longer barrel on, but now it doesnt eject shells.

Several S&W model 19 revolvers. They're just so nice, I had to bring 'em home ... An old Security Six. Don't shoot it, don't really like it, but the price was right ... A Smith 940 (9mm snubbie). Bought it not long ago, shot it, loved it, put it away.

:what:

Morgan, looks like you need some help there as those are some real shooters!

I have a Ruger 10/22T that I just never get around to shooting. I have a couple other 10/22s that are better shooters and more practical (i.e. lighter).
