Having just finished getting my hunting rig ready for the season, I was wondering what some of you guys are using for hunting. My rig consists of a .50 cal T/C New Englander, and a Pietta 1858 remington.

Sorry about that scope, but my old eyes ain't what they used to be, and in my hunting club if you miss you lose your shirt tail. I hate to lose a good shirt:)

My gear looks about like yours...
T/C Hawken .54 PRB over 90gr 3f
I may not carry the 5 1/2" '58 all the time though. All the extras get pretty heavy when you have a climber stand on your back.

I just got a Traditions Tracker 209 that I'm planning on hunting with this year. $160 couldn't beat it, shot 3" low at 50 yards first 4 shots I took with it, so the sights are up and ready to go. None of my stands allow for shots over 50 anyway, so we'll see how it goes.

I have a .50 Knight loaded with 100 grs. 777 2f and a .45 sabot I think is 240 grs. Darn good shooting iron and hits like "The Hammer of Thor".

In need of a .50 cal sidelock to go with the Old Army...
Keep eyein' the Lyman's Deerstalker. I'm hopin' to be well enough behaved so that I get it for Xmas. Needless to say I may have to get one on my own!

You need to further define it. As in hunting for what?

small game? My 32 squirrel rifle, my 24 ga smooth bore flinter, my 12 ga perc double, my 50 cal smoothie, my 36 cal percussion in-line pistol, my 32 cal flint pistol, what ever the mood is for the day.

Big game? mY 50 FLINTER LONG RIFLE, my 24 ga smoothie flinter, my 62 cal chunk gun where I can bench rest it for long shots across the ravine., again it depends.

Varmints, My Ruger Old Army for ground hogs, raccoons, foxes, skunks, etc.

I just go varmint hunting now with my old '51 Navy Colt, (2nd Generation) an old holster, an old web belt, an old pair of jeans and an old pair of work boots.

All summer long and its a lot of fun!!!

Deer and hogs, T/C Renegade LH .50, T/C New Englander LH .50, T/C Thunder Mountain inline .50, Dixie Gunworks (Miroku of Japan) Tennessee Mountain Rifle .50 flintlock, ROA, Pietta Remington New Model Army, Pedersoli 20 gauge Howdah Pistol.

I am taking my Pedersoli .32 flinter out for ruffed grouse Monday. When deer season opens up will be using a Lyman .54 flinter.

For deer, .54 flintlock using .530 PRB over 70 grains of 3Fg. For squirrel or rabbit, 20 gauge flintlock tradegun with 1 oz. of #5 over 70 grains of 2 Fg or a .40 flintlock with a .390 ball and 40 grains of 3Fg , and for quail, chukkar, woodcock, and pheasants, 20 gauge SxS caplock with 1 oz of #7½ shot. I don't carry a handgun backup, as one should wait a bit before one goes to collect the deer, and during that time I can reload.

For hunting I have settled on one gun, a fusil de chasse I built up several years ago. It has a Getz 46" smooth bore barrel, 20 balls to the pound, (.62") comes up to shoulder on target like it had eyes of it's own.

Love the utility of ball or shot, from bunnies to big game, one gun will get'er done.
