Whats on your Christmas list?

I would love to get a shooter 2nd gen F series Colt Dragoon, 1st Model that I found at a gun show. The guy wanted $695. which IMHO, is too much, as it has been shot, the cylinder stops are a littled buggered up, is in need of some timing work, as the cylinder has a nice ring scratched around its circumference, and some strange scratches on the back shoulders of the cylinder, like something at one time was dragging somehow on the cylinder. Otherwise it locks up tight. I brought all these shortcomings up to the seller and he said to make him an offer, but I told him I was only looking that day. I did get his card and told him I might get back to him.

So it definetely being shooter and not a collectable piece (not mint, no box, no papers, no plastic bag etc.) what would you offer for such a piece. It definitely would rate a trip to the goonsgunworks.

Realistically speaking, maybe, I'll just get my kids to get my I.A.B. .45-70 Sharps saddle ring carbine out of layaway. I went to McBrides in Austin today. They had 3 Uberti .45-70 Sharps in stock: one saddle ring carbine and a long Quigley for $1400ish and a shorter target Sharps for considerably less.

The most recent "Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms" that I have is the Eighth Edition published in 2013.

It has the F series 1st Model Dragoon as:

100% - $725 (NIB) - $100 to $150 if missing box and paper work
98% - $450
90% - $325
80% - $250

Last MSR - $448

To me, a dulled finish rates 98% and handling marks with a nick or two put it in the 90% category. That ring on the cylinder is a major disfigurement.

This one sounds like a $250 (or less) shooter from your description!

Remember the time and/or money you will have to put into it to get the timing right.

All that said, sellers all seem to have a higher opinion of their item than the buyers have.

LaRue LT104 scope mount and Geissele SSA trigger . Maybe a Aimpoint H1 , I am Santa .
I just got the LaRue LT104 Thursday .

elhombre, those marks on the cylinder sound like it could be caused by the hammer blowing back when it's fired.

I'm not really wishing for any guns this Christmas but I do want to get a Colt 2nd Gen 1851 Navy and a Lyman Great Plains Rifle eventually.

Just happened to notice that Cimarron firearms carries a Leech and Rigdon revolver. There's another Confederate revolver that I can add to my list.
