Makarov
H&K P7 PSP
A good revolver.

and at least one black powder gun. I bought a 58 Remmy and it is a BLAST to shoot.

Given serious though, this one would be my "must have".

I think it's hard to beat a SIG P220 with Hogue grips when it comes to reliability, functional accuracy, simplicity and ergonomics. I bought my first SIG P220 in '93 back in the days when there were only three or four models to choose from. That P220 has had thousands upon thousands of rounds through it (mostly 185gr SWC reloads) without a single issue ... NONE ... so I still think that SIG makes the ultimate semi-auto combat handguns. However, like many here, a 1911 is a must have so my first (and possibly last) is going to be a Kimber Tactical Entry II. After that it's back to SIG and a P220 Carry model for the wife. I bought her a P225 in '98 but to this day she still doesn't like it and much prefers the P220.

Not to take anything away from the Glock fanboys in this thread, but WHATS STOPPING YOU? If you want a Glock 19, it isn't like you're wanting some rare expensive firearm....

To answer the OP, mine would be the Government 1911A1 (there's an Ithaca at the local pawn shop, tagged at $1800:what:), a Browning HP (haven't run across one yet), and a high-end Kimber.

That depends greatly on the hand in question -- everything else I could agree with.

I wanted so badly to love my P220, and I did for what it was, but it never did and never will fit my hands well enough for me to shoot/control it as well as I do pistols with smaller overall grip profiles.

(Curse my freakishly small girly-hands! :cuss: )

HardShell, that IS a pity. My 5' and 100lb Asian-American wife has no problems with it and her hands are a lot smaller than mine. In fact, it's her favorite handgun along with my ("her") 4" stainless Python. Numerous people have handled and shot the P220 over the years, and every last one of them is amazed by how natural and comfortable it feels in the hand. The weekend before last, I took a friend and his incredibly stunning Thai wife shooting. She'd never fired any firearm before but the following Monday they bought a P220 from a local gunshop! Everyone who handles it wants one ... that's how good it is. I've spent quite a bit of time fondling a Kimber Tactical Entry II but it's not even close to the SIG in terms of ergonomics.

:)

I have to agree with 1858. The p220 is a classic and a must have. I have short fingers and the P220 grips feels too big for me BUT the ergos and shape are sooooo nice that in my hands the P220 shoots like magic. Love it. I'm sick that I don't have one.

I have a Kimber 45,a Glock40 s&w, a Rossi 38 Special and a Smith & Wesson 32 H&R Mag . I guess I am missing a 357 revolver......

The P220 uses a single stack magazine so the grip feels perfect to me. To be honest, one of the reasons why I never bought a P229/P226 or similar is that those grips with their double stack magazines DO feel too big for me. A double stack magazine in a .45 ACP is not an option for me.
