what's so bad about Wolf?

I've not fired any Wolf .223, .308 or .30-06 through any of my rifles in those calibers. I've shot a bunch of Wolf 7.62 Russian (with the Polymer coating) through my SKS with no problems. I can't tell you whether it's inaccurate or to attribute that to crappy sights & trigger. I've also shot a bunch of Wolf .45 ACP and Wolf .40 S&W with no problems, and it didn't seem to be too much less accurate than WWB. Now the Wolf .22LR ammo is good stuff and shoots as well as any match ammo I've shot through my Ruger Mk II. I will say it's kinda stinky, but I shoot mostly outside so that's not a big deal, and when I can give 45$ for 500 rounds of 7.62 Russian at a gunshow, that's a lot of shooting for not too much money.... so I'll keep shooting it....

Wolf is underpowerd, I shot a stipper clip of wolf, then of WWB. Not only does wolf smell "dirty" but it doesnt give near the kick of the wwb

But then again, it doesn't take much to kill paper or pop cans, and I'm not running around hunting two legged animals, like it often seems like some here are doing...

Wolf is bologna, not filet mignon. With that in mind:

I have used the polymer coated stuff now in .45 acp, 9mm, 7.62x39, and 5.56 and have had zero problems. It does have a funky smell.

It is blasting ammo, and for that it is great. For competition, use something else.

I greatly prefer Wolf Match Target .22lr ammo in a couple of my .22s. As for other wolf, it's ok, but over time, lots of steel casings can be hard on extractors and possibly even the chamber - might polish off a little material and leave you with a looser chamber.

Don't let those little bastard penguins fool ya - they'd just as soon kill you as look at you - you turn away for one second and WHAM - beaked in the back!

looks like the general feeling is that wolf kicks ass for what it's designed for (SHOOTING, not matches but just shooting). It works for others and me so I think I'll reorder some. No snobbiness here, just plain ol' fun shooting.

Some people don't like Wolf because its cheap. Some people don't like Wal-mart either. I like them both, because I'm cheap.

Perfect sentiment right there. I'll second that. Why no original post of my own, only using someone else's? Because I'm also cheap :neener:

I know some of you will laugh long and out loud at what I am about to say, but Wolf has performed so solidly for me, for a long enough period of time, that it is my carry ammo. Its really a matter of confidence, and honestly, the Wolf has earned my confidence.

I have had good results with Wolf .223 55 grain JHP in my Mini-14 -- several hundred rounds without a hitch. The same ammo does not function 100% in my Colt AR-15A3, however. The Colt does run 100% with XM-193, WWB, or Ultramax remanufactured ammo. Accuracy is so-so.

My Springfield 1911A1 Loaded runs fine with Wolf .45 ACP 230 grain FMJ. It shoots just as accurately as WWB (which is to say quite good).

My Chicom SKS and a few different AKs have run 100% with Wolf 7.62x39, but that's no surprise.

I recently picked up a 50 round box of Wolf .30 Carbine 110 grain FMJ. I'll post a report after I run it through my Underwood M1.

The only Wolf ammo I've shot has been through my SKS. I started with 100 rounds of it, and ended up buying another 400 rounds afterwards. Its been dead reliable and accurate enough for my commie gun and don't see any reason to change ammo for a plinking gun.

On the other end of the spectrum, I can't find one good reason to fire plinking ammo or cheap ammo for that matter through my Springy 1911 that I paid over 7 bills for.

Here's what my caveman friend has to say about Wolf:

"Wolf make SKS go kaboom. Make Og scared. Wolf make dirt like mammoth dung and sabertooth pee baked in sun many days. Ucky."

If you have a tough gun,Wolf's great.Sissy guns need not apply.
I'll second that opinion. Milsurps, anyone? Or AK designs (no cheap AR ammo here :neener: ).

Conrad......that's one interesting friend you've got there :scrutiny:

"Wolf make SKS go kaboom. Make Og scared. Wolf make dirt like mammoth dung and sabertooth pee baked in sun many days. Ucky."

I assume the "kaboom" is from the rifle discharging, the mammoth dung is the nasty powder residue and the sabertooth pee is the smell of the chemical preservative that gives wolf it's "distinct" odor.

Og says,

"Kaboom is primer get hole, firing pin bend like twig and fly from bolt like spear. Og hammer bolt with club to get case out. Og say many bad words. You right about dung and pee."

Og may have problems with Wolf's odor, but I don't--nothin' like that smell to let everyone around know you're shooting something. That, and "I love the smell of napalm in the morning"

And for the record, Wolf makes my SKS go "kaboom" every time without "kabooming" itself into oblivion :neener: .

I had problems with Wolf 223 last time I tried it, but that may have been due to the heavy buffer in my AR. Next time out, I'm going to try Wolf again with the stock buffer. If it works, I may buy a couple hundred rounds to keep on hand for those times I can't find a good price on domestic 223. Around here, Wolf is nearly $2/box cheaper than anything else. That adds up quickly.

Why would I shoot wolf when
I can get TZZ and WCC delivered to my door for $115 per thousand?
Because, depending on what calibre you're referring to (which you didn't mention), Wolf is ususally cheaper, or a safer bet than much of the surplus ammo floating around. YMMV, and that's great--as long as you get shooting time in. And, having it delivered to your dooor= :D . Check out prices at www.ammunitionstore.com , they deliver :)
