whats the best 300 dollar rifle

I have two Howa 1500s that are darn good for the money. Both were 400 with glass. >.308and .223. Poor mans Weatherby.

These wholesale for over four bills now and that is without the scope. Even the Weatherby Vanguard S2 is 450 direct from the distributor.

most of these used guns your talking about may have been that price in the past but not right now and who knows about the future.

That's been my experience too. I'd love to know where people find used gun racks with something other than 10% off NIB prices. That's all I've ever found. Used Ruger 77s for $550 w/o glass, used Tikkas for $525, used A-Bolts for $600, etc, etc. Never seen a pre-64 Winchester 70 period, never seen a used Rem 700 for sale (that was actually made by Remington). Saw a used Marlin 336 once, and it was actually made by Marlin too. It was also $450.
