I have a taurus 445ch with a 2" barrel. As I understand it, most Taurus revolvers are quasi copies of S&W revolvers. With that understood, what is the S&W model number for a five shot .44 special snubbie? Please note that I am well aware of the Thunder Ranch, this is not what I'm after, also I am aware that there aren't many .44 Specials made these days so if the number is for a discontinued model that's OK. Thanks folks! Oh and before I forget what frame size would this be? It has never ceased to amaze me that S&W revolvers don't have the frame size anywhere on the gun!

Not sure what exactly the Taurus 445ch is. Quick search on google says it's an all-steel, concealed hammer, 2" ported barrel, 5-shot .44 Special.

5 shot .44 specials in S&W land would be on an L-frame. I can only think of 3 off the top of my head (should probably check around to make sure my memory is correct on the info below).

I don't think there's a model that directly translates. The only all-steel 5-shot S&W snubbie would be the 696, but that has a 3" non-ported barrel. It has a standard hammer.

The 396 is a scandium alloy frame w/ titanium cylinder. 3 1/8" barrel non-ported. Standard hammer.

The 296 also has an alloy frame, but it does have a concealed hammer. 2.5" barrel non-ported.

Hope that helps.

Why? Does Ford stamp compact, midsize, or fullsize on it's cars... ;)
