What's the deal with "Heat"?

TrippyFool,

I agree with you in some aspects. I actually like the story and the characters and how he follows the individual stories of each character, I thought that was great and of course I loved the gun and action scenes. I also agree about Pacino, but then again, has there been a movie in the past 15 years in which Pacino's performance was NOT over the top?

My big thing that I DIDN'T like about the movie though (and I've said it here before) was that much of the dialogue was just terrible. The worst offender is the character of Pacino's wife. Most of her dialogue was just ghastly..especially when she went off on the "human detritus" monologue. Ugh...gives me the willies just thinking about it.

If your main complaint was about the slowness then I wouldn't advise many of Michael Mann's other movies as he often concentrates on the building of relationships between characters and the characters' stories. I thought he did a fantastic job on the movie "The Insider" with Russell Crowe, Pacino and Christopher Plummer doing a masterful Mike Wallace but you probably wouldn't like it if you felt Heat was too slow.
