i,wonder how this thing is gonna fit inside the safe:D

mental note to self-no more long guns-

clown

I field strip guns at the store before I pay for them, just to make sure. This is especially true of used guns.

Went to a local Gun Shop and was going to pick up a Rusky SKS, they had five or six that I had to ask to look at one at a time. They all had those stupid zip strips on the action and the gas tubs were loose. I found the best one and started to flip the little lever thingy, that holds the gas tube, when the old cuss behind the counter barked "if you want to take the @#$# thing apart, you pay me first!" I said fair enough and handed it back to him and walked out. I had bought several guns from the guy and he always asked like it killed him to cut the zip strip off even a revolver for me to check. He sells mostly used mill surp and puts zip strips on everything. :banghead:

field strip and clean it up.

you actually read the manual after buying it? i actually read it before i even get the gun on my hand :) (ahh.. online manual, this include my HK, Ruger and XD) by the time i got the gun, i already know how to strip/clean and its recommended maintenance schedule.

After dancing around, chortling, and having had my fill of Bwa ha ha ha outbursts, I file the paperwork, then strip and clean it.

Then I give thanks to the Founders for their wisdom and foresight.

Then I dash off a quick email to the Brady bunch, to give them the raspberry they so richly deserve.

before i get home I start calling all the friends to brag/gloat a bit. Getitng all giddy on the way home. Get home....wish i didnt head the other way to the range :( So I fondle it a bit while sitting at the computer....then put it up then go to bed cause i gota get up again the next day to pay for it/replace savings it depleted

Once I get it home I'll read the manual from cover to cover just to be familar with it.

Then I'll buy several boxes of ammo and bring it to the range as soon as I can.

I do most of the previously mentioned list...'cept maybe the dance thing...then I make a holster or sling...now I'm ready to go to the range.
Mark.

I do the usual cleaning and such, then I try to find a way to display the weapon. Can it go on the dresser? Or maybe mount it over there? Or set it in the corner for that old timey feel?

Let's see...get home, take it out of the box, read the manual and strip the gun (making sure I know how it all works and what goes where), reassemble it, and put it away.

Overnite, I put the first round I'll be firing with my new purchase under my pillow (for good luck/ sweet dreams/ weird superstition's sake.) ;)

Then, I go to the range and put as many rounds through it as I can (normally ~350 if a .22, ~70-80 if anything larger)

take out the manual and dissassemble it.check for something amiss.clean and relube it,fix if needed.shoot it and enjoy if alls well.i have come across guns with missing firing pins, broken parts and 1 that had corroded rifling that i didnt notice until after i got it home as the gun looked absolutlt mint on the outside.one would be surprised at some goof ups sold these days-even on new ones.

The very first thing?

Take pictures of it (right and left) and then record all pertinent information about it in my computer data base e.g. make, model, serial number, etc. Then I take it out and read the manual, clean it, and, yes, I fondle it too. Good shooting;)
