What's the one out of state hunt you'd like to try?

I’ve got a lot of hunting goals, starting to define and work at achieving them. My kids are also getting to hunting age. Trying to get them tags and opportunity to hunt is entering the mix. They both want to try it and I hope they like it and want to keep doing it

Realistic goals:
Wyoming deer, elk and antelope. I’m Applying for elk tags in WY this year but draw isn’t guaranteed. Otc elk and reasonably drawn mule deer tags in Colorado are also likely in the next ten years. Also looking hard at doe antelope in Wyoming for my kids, it’s kinda tough to get tags in AZ and this would allow them to hunt every year they don’t get AZ tags

Potential goals (some things will have to happen, but they might):
Moose and caribou and Dall sheep in Alaska. I’d like to do at least one of these in the next ten years

Dream:
A big ass brown bear in Alaska, and I want to be within 200 yards maximum when I shoot. I probably won’t ever have the $40k to spend on this guided but if a few things happen and my sister/brother in law move back to AK then maybe I can do this DIY with my brother in law. Still a maybe at best

As far as Africa goes, it feels like a pipe dream at this point. I’d love to hunt buffalo but not sure I’ll ever prioritize that over North American hunting which may be a mistake. I feel like it may be one of those don’t know what I’m missing type things. But as far as my aspirations go for now, it will probably remain as such

I don't know if it's still true but an African plains game hunt (Namibia, So. Africa) was cheaper than a moose hunt in Alaska. I went to Namibia for a week and So. Africa for 4 days and wound up with 13 animals including gemsbok, nyala, and kudu. I was pampered by my standards, had great food, laundry done every day or two, beer was included but I didn't drink. Including air fare the hunt was cheaper than almost any Alaskan hunt not including air fare. I didn't count taxidermy fees in the total.

I found some places down south to hunt them pretty cheap.

They have some fenced areas down here that charge somewhere about $100/day and includes one or two hogs. Others charge by the hog. Free-range hunts are hit & miss as to whether you get a hog. A hunt with dogs that bay or catch a hog are almost a sure thing in some areas. Central Florida has the most hogs. South Fla. and the panhandle have fewer.

Ya I see a few places in fl and ga. I may have to try one with my dad, the drive would not be to bad.

I'd like to go on a western hunt or 2. Never been a trophy hunter, probably won't be here either. Have some in-law connections in Colorado for Elk and Mulies, and they're looking into Antelope. A realistic goal this one, barring any disasters I should be physically able for another 10-20 years, and finances get easier every year. It's a semi-wilderness hunt with horses and over the counter cow tags, almost OTC bull tags (about 70% chance of draw) so I guess I married well, just need to put it all together. Wish I could have gotten in on the antelope boom when they were easy in Wyoming. Was still too busy figuring out how to make a living.

The other big bucket list for me is Ontario or Manitoba moose. A classic boat-in semi-guided hunt. Tags are available within a day's drive, and it's affordable since I'm crazy enough to drive a $4000 truck to a $6000 hunt LOL.

Oh yeah, and I'd love to chase waterfowl down the Mississippi flyway some fall into winter. That one may have to wait until I retire, it's my busy season at work and attendance is mandatory.

Stuttgart, Arkansas.....is where you want to go.

In the next five years, by the time I'm 50, I want to do elk in New Mexico, moose in Maine and black bear in the Carolinas. I've been to Alaska and loved it but it has never really called to me for hunting. I'd much rather spend that kind of money in Africa.

Guessing that's Texas, here's a spot just a couple hours drive from my place. Plenty more to choose from here.

Nope

A when I say Dall sheep I am speaking of a real life Dall Sheep as in one of the 4 wild sheep of North America. Rocky Mountain Bighorn, Stone Sheep, Desert Bighorn and Dall Sheep. A Texas “Dall” sheep is some kind of freak designer sheep that was bred to be put into high fence hunting operations. It is not of the Bighorn family.

The only American state that has wild Dall Sheep is Alaska.

I always wanted to join a group of Yautja hunting a Xenomorph XX121 (kiande amedha) queen to seed a new hunting planet... :D Given the very limited availability of that hunting opportunity I guess I would settle for hunting cap buffalo somewhere in Africa.

Now designer genes conspiracies.

Alaska was purchased from Russia y'know. So those are heritage Russian Dall sheep.

Texas was an independent republic.

And the custom Texas “Dall” Sheep didn’t exist back then.

Texas Dall Sheep are a hybrid cross between Mouflon ewes and Rambouillet rams. The end result is a beautiful snow white Corsican sheep that was bred solely for hunting purposes. No conspiracy here just the facts.
