What's the worst shotgun you've ever owned...

OK, the recoil spring broke, firing pin broke and so did the non-replaceable plastic bolt release button. Junk, what else would you call it!?!

I don't think you are going to like any answers that don't assuage your feelings SI. I used to shoot at a Winchester-Western range. They were always trying to get me to try a Winchester instead of my 1100. One day they offered to let me shoot a 1400 for free, and if i didn't like it they wouldn't even charge me for the shells and targets - a round or 25 was about $3 back then, including shells and targets, so it wasn't breaking the bank. I think I went about 13 or 14 shots and went back and got my own gun. Opinions are free, and in mine the 1200/1400s were the Winchester low point.

Mossberg 500 in .410. My dad bought it to replace the old single shot .410 i had when i was 8. Never fed right, the shells would always jam on the shell elevators. Sold it to buy a Winchester 1300 in 12 gauge and never looked back. Still have the winchester and the old single shot .410 in my gun cabinet

yeah the plastic button is usually gone and you pinch the hell out of your thumb releasing. We have a few missing those. We have 4 140/1400 (really close maybe no difference in the two) winchesters and none of them are reliable with those 100 round bricks from walmart. I average 2-3 hangups per 100 rounds. Again not bad for $200 but just not a great gun.

Posts: 443 My God, what was the USMC thinking when they adopted the Mossberg 590 as their shotgun?

A shotgun is very, very far down on the list of military priorities. They only wanted the cheapest gun they could get their hands on. Read the specs required to pass the military trials sometime. ANYTHING could pass.

Stevens S/S, I have forgotten the model. I bought it because it was very cheap, not bad looking, and I wanted to see whether I would like a double gun. The way it was stocked, it shot about 2 feet below point of aim at 20 yards. When I figured that out I sold it and started buying good doubles.

I once had a Mossberg 835. I bought it because I wanted to shoot 3.5" loads at geese. After the first shot, the shell would expand so tight within the barrel that it wouldn't extract. So it was basically a single shot, and even then I wasn't able to get the shells out of the barrel sometimes while in the field.

Traded it in for a different gun, wouldn't recommend an 835 to anyone.

Mossberg 500 complete POS
Benelli SBE1 more expensive POS
Benelli NOVA my lord what a POS

I now own a dozen 870 Wingmasters. Everyone flawless in function not all of them pretty but I would bet my life on any of them.

Browning B-2000........released before Browning had worked out all the design problems, so bad they finally discontinued and replaced it with a model designed by Beretta, the B-80.

Smith & Wesson "Eastfield Model 916", same as the Noble Model 916. S&W picked a poor model for their foray into selling shotguns, and it came back to bite them as warranty costs on the broken parts in these things hit their profit margins. Still have it, can't get rid of it. Luckily, don't have much money in it, I bought it as part of a collection at an estate sale to get two other guns I wanted.

Remington 1100. Not that it was a bad shotgun, but I must have had bad luck with 'O' rings as they kept failing and turning my autoloader to a manual loader.

My first Shotgun was an 870.

It had one of those variable chokes attached and would not shoot straight. When you got to know where the shot was going you couldn't change the choke or the shot would go somewhere else.

Ithaca Single 12ga Lever

Ithaca 12 ga single shot lever action

Shot it twice. Never made it to three. A'int recoil sensitive, but it was all I ever wanted and more. It rusted to death in the corner after the second shot....

S&W (AKA Nobel) Model 916:

I'm with Swampwolf on this one. Bought it when they first came out because I was a S&W fanatic at the time.

I will say it excelled at duck hunting and outshot all my friend's guns.

Wasn't till years later when I went to sell it that I found out it was useless. No parts available and poor resale.

Well, you can't really blame the gun on that one. Swap out for a normal screw-in choke and you'd be just fine. I can't say I trust those poly-choke dealies one bit. Saw a guy at the range with one, and it just looked like too much fiddling around to get it right.

I'm another that never had a bad one I've had a double barrel auto and pump all did exactly what they were intended to the SxS looked the best , the saga 12 was best zombie gun, and the pump well shotguns are supposed tO be pumps

Weatherby Orion 12 Gauge O/U.

The rear stock drop was so slight that you had to lay your head sideways against the stock to view down the rib, even then, your head was too high, resulting in not being able to bring the rear of the gun up high enough which made every shot shoot way too high.

I couldn't figure out how any human being could possibly shoot that gun and be on target unless maybe you happened to be a contortionist.

16 ga. Ithaca model 37 nice looking shotgun but the fit for me was terrible it shot where ever it wanted, I never got comfortable with it so I sold it.
I wouldn't own another one if it was given to me, only other time I used one was in Danang 1970.

Worst shotgun i have owned? "topper" 20 ga. Useless for anything recoils hard, and takes forever to load/cock... I have alot of guns and this is the only one that serves no purpose but it was inherited so it sits.

Worst for the money/most dissapointing? Ruger red label for sure. Went less than 5000 rounds and was in worse shape than my trap guns with 10x than many. Would be happy with it if it cost ~400$.

I would have to say the newer versions of the remington 870 are terrible, i am a mossberg guy cuz im not spending 600 dollars on a shotgun and my 5 500 variants (500A, bantam, youth and 590) have never given me any problems in any guage but my old version 870 wingmaster from like 1983 is one of my cherished possessions. I have personally seen a new 870 eat a groove in the top of the action and as a result the bolt would lift and lock up after each shot, we kept having to take the barrel out to relieve the pressure on the bolt in order to rack it back an this was after only 400 shots, i've got 100,000 through my 2007 Mossy 500A and not a hiccup

Mossberg 9200. Never cycled unless I shot 00 or slugs and held it real tight, even then it was iffy. No aftermerket support for it and replacement parts were hard to come by locally.

The best is my 930 SPX. 100% reliable with any load, hands down. Light and fast!
