I see that for about the last 3 weeks the only AR-15 magazines in stock for 20 or 30 rounds ar the AR Stoner's. Are they junk or something? I've bought several of them and I like them as they are lighter than my other steel mags, seem to feed well and everything too. Just kinda wondering why they haven't sold out like the other brands have.

As far as I've heard, they're OK. The USGI and Magmul mags tend to be preferred because they are, well, USGI or Magpul mags.

If you're talking about aluminum mags marked "AR Stoner" on the floorplate, they're made by C Products and are good magazines.

Don't know about them but the worst mags I ever had were made by Colt:(
Go figure....

AR Stoner is the trade-name ripped off by Midway USA for thier own brand of AR mags.

It's enough to say they have absolutely nothing to do with Eugene Stoner, the inventer of the AR-15.

However, as already noted, they are made by C-Products for Midway, and should work just fine.

Why are they still around in quanity?
Probably because Midway ordered about half a gazillion of them with thier trade-name on them from C-Products.

BTW: They are lighter then your steel mags because they are not steel. They are aluminum like all mil-spec M16 mags.

What is wrong with the AR-Stoner mags - A TON!

The answer is:

The earlier AR-Stone mags were great. But, after a big selloff when they were marked down by Midwayusa, they changed from a grey body to black. And the spring is different. The spring has HUGE friction on the magazine body and none of the 22(!) I bought will work without failure to feed due to the spring hanging up due to its d@mn friction. The 20 rounders work fine, even the new black ones, but they have a different color spring. The spring in the black 20's is a different color from the spring in the 30 black.

I took a spring from an early grey mag marked AR-Stoner and put it in one of the black ones that didn't work, and it works fine.

I am looking for an affordable price on mag springs. Right now the best price on one I trust is about 3 bucks apiece.

AR-Stoner's is cheaper, but................

Where do you get the idea that the Stoner mags are the only ones currently available? Plenty other brands can be found, as well. Btw, nothing wrong with the Stoner mags.

ar-stoners have given me no problems (yes I got them from Midway for $10).
I believe they are made by C-products now. I've shot over 2K rounds and maybe 3-4 ftfs. Brownell mags are great, with the grey magpul followers.

What's wrong with AR-Stoner mags

OK guys.

The answer to your question and remark is:

1. If you ordered them when they were $10, they were C Products made, with a Magpul follower, and a nice gray color. Really nice and reliable mag. I have 10 of them and couldn't be happier.
2 If you were on backorder and you got them in March or later, then what you got were "who knows who made" black ones with a really cheesy follower, and a very bad spring.
3. If you don't believe this, order one. They are on sale for 11.99. Then try it out (and please post a range report).
4. It's probably best that nobody believes me, anyway. That way, I will be able to sell them if that's what I decide what to do with my 26 defective mags. (Joking. No way would I sell these defective magazines to an unsuspecting fellow gun fancier--).
5. I will buy others, probably some more C Products or Magpul, unless I find out there are better options available.

For grins, I plan to upgrade one of the defective mags with a Magpul follower and a new spring. I just haven't figured out which spring to try.

In the meantime, I have the 10 good ones, and the 6 or seven mags I got with my black rifles, that work ok. The expensive defects I got was probably Karma for me trying to hoard mags before the new AWB.

best regards,guys,
