Wahts Yer 9mm Carry Load, and Why?

For 9mm guys:

So many loads, so little time, and the debate rages on and on...

What do you carry in your 9mm...whats your load for serious defense..??

Me, 147 grain SXT..perfect fuction in my P7, P99 and BHP....deadly accurate and I assume potent enough to stop someone....

I practice with whatever is laying around.....

Hmmm... I think my P7M8 and P-228 both have 124gr +P Gold Dots in them. My BDM has 115gr +P+ 9BPLE in it.

It's what I had lying around when I loaded the mags.

Ah yes Tam the old "hmmm look what I found in the drawer" ammo selection technique!

I just opened my glove compartment in my summer car and found about 30 9mm rounds in a baggie..shooting tommorrow!!!

124gr. NATO FMJ

Penetration, accuracy, reliability, waterproofed primer and power.

Plus you can afford to practice with what you carry without breaking the bank.

Drops mag... 115 gr STHP. Stone cold reliable, works well out of a 3.125" bbl. We ordered a case, and divided them up.

Yes I have tested and use other loadings...like Tamara...I had these , they work...loaded up and go.

Gold Dot 124 Gr +Ps here. They have a fine reputation from most any source that discusses such things and I've seen the wound they leave in a racoon. Real nasty! Good enough for me to feel well-protected. ;)

I've used a bit of the 127 Gr Rangers and while it's fine, it's too expensive and I havent shot enough of th e9mm stuff to be 100% sure myself. The Golden Sabers are also fine and I like them in 45 but again, I have never shot anything soft with them so for all I know, all the testers could be lying to me. ME! :what:

Federal Classic 147gr JHP.

Kiesler's Police Supply had a sale going on them and I bought 10 boxes of 50 for $9.97 per box. At that rate, I could afford to practice AND carry with the ammo...

It doesn't matter whether it's my Sig 225, Walther P99, or the CZ75--if I'm carrying 9mm, that's the load. All three group tightly with the ammo and all three feed it reliably.

Speer Gold dot 124gr JHP +p in my 940 and 2 - 5 rnd moon clips of more of the same in right pocket with 1 - 5 rnd moon clip of 115 gr fmj in the other pocket. Spot on at 15 yds.

Another vote for the 124 grain Speer Gold Dots. Why? Because I read the evaluations by the two main "effectiveness" factions, and the Speers scored well with both the "formula" group and the "statistics" group. The bond between core and jacket gives mass retention, so it works better through layers of clothes (not that it's a big issue here in Florida, where "formal attire" is a white T-shirt).

OTOH, I believe that just about any 9mm round can be effective, if the shooter places it correctly. Sure, some will do better than others in a given situation (and every situation is unique), but I sure wouldn't want to be shot with any of them.

The red tipped exotic 80 gr. NGA Sentry +P or the excellent SPEER 124 gr Gold Dot +P. ( idaho!)
The issue load for the NYPD! I have no love for the 147s, but
the Federal 135 gr. personal defense load looks promising in
CZs regarding accuracy.

Anyone using this PD load?

Winchester White Box Personal Protection 115gr.

It's cheap so I can afford to shoot alot of it.
It has been perfectly reliable in all my 9mms.
Performance is surprisingly good.
Easy to find if I need more. (Wal-Mart carries it.)

Logistar

WWB 115 JHP.

Cheap enough to shoot enough in all my 9s to ensure 100% reliability.

Howdy,

My current 9mm carry load is (by departmental mandate) Remington 115 grain JHP.

I am working with a couple of the other guys in an effort to get our duty weapon changed from the S&W 6946 to the Glock 22. If that falls through, I'm going to try to get our duty ammo changed to the Winchester Ranger SXT 127 grain (+P+).

In the past, I worked for two other departments that issued the 9mm. My issued carry ammunition was as follows:

Speer 124 grain Gold Dot JHP in SIG 226

Winchester Ranger 115 grain JHP(+P+) in Beretta 92

Left to my own devices, I carry 115 grain (+P+) JHP from Federal, Remington, or Winchester, depending on what I can find and what is cheapest. Right now I have both the Winchester and Remington versions in my ammo box, but I actually like the Federal 9PBLE the most. I would go with the 127 grain Ranger SXT(+P+), but its harder to get and more expensive, so I am content with the 115 grain (+P+).
