I'm curious to know about the quality of the different brands of brass out there for .308 win, which work the best for accurate reloads?
What's your favorite?
thanks

The casing that is closest to 0.308 is a Lamb casing. Hog and beef casings are much larger.

Now if you are talking about cases, Lapua and Norma are very good.

IDriveB5, our local Sportsman's Warehouse is out of ammo, powder, primers, bullets and everything else. However, last weekend I did find a bag (50 count) of Winchester .308 brass for $17.98.

I'm currently working my way through 200 new Lapua cases, casings whatever ...

Min weight: 172.6 grains
Max weight: 174.4 grains
ES: 1.8 grains
SD: 0.49 grains

Since the difference between the lightest and heaviest case is only 1.8 grains (approx. 1%) I'm not bothering to sort them by weight and that's worth the extra cost to me.

:)

Thanks for the responses. mmmm, casings... I must have been thinking about boudin when I wrote that

The ones I guard closely are the Lake City Match cases I have, the BHA match cases, and the Hornady brass.

Second after that are all of the NATO-spec .mil cases- WCC, RA, FCC, IVI, LC, etc.

After that it is CBC (Brazilian), Prvi Partizan (NNY) and 70's dated OFV (Indian).

After that is all the commercial stuff, FC, Win, Rem, Silver State, PMC, all of that.

Bottom of the barrel stuff is 90's and newer OFV, CAVIM, & all that oddball foreign 7.62 stuff you find, oddball commercial.

Shoney; well said. Gently too.

The difference on target that can be directly attributed to specific brands of cases is so small as to be irrelivant to new shooters. By the time anyone gets enough experiece and skill to see any tiny differences he won't need to ask the web.

Unless you are shooting a match chambered all out competition rifle you will be hard pressed to tell any difference in any match grade to commercial grade brass.

Match type chambers with their tighter tolerences respond better to the tighter standards found in corresponding brass. Then weight segregation, neck turning, flash hole prep, etc. will usually show an improvement, over run of the mill commercial brass .

My favorite is Winchester.

Free.

Followed closely by cheap.

Followed with Hornady IF a guy has to actually purchase some. I thought free brass was why I have friends who don't reload?

GGG, Hornady, Winchester, FC, PMC, LC, Remington, BHA, and so on. I even use those odd ball cases from Europe. They all work fine.
