So what is it. For me in the pistol catagory it is the 1911 hands down. A 1911 is as American as apple pie. And i love pie. The rifle i love my Garand but i give it to the ruskies the AK-47. Own three. Mak 90, Yugo M70 AB2, and a Draco. Fun, accurate, durable. Built like Stallen himself hard as hell and backs it up with ferocity. I know there are custom made bolt actions and people would scoff at the idea a Klashnikov would be thought of in that life to them i am sorry. Lets get a good old fashion debate going guys and maybe we will all learn something. GO TEAM U.S.A in all the olympic events. Ryan got you Phelps.

AK's are accurate? OK, you can hit a person with one I guess. If that's accurate enough for you then I guess they're accurate.
As far as my favorite gun I'd have to go with any S&W K-frame. Especially my 3" .357.
Rugged, easy to carry, powerful enough, versitile, great trigger and it always works.

Of guns I personally own? I'm torn 'twixt Smith Model 19 and the 1911. Getting down to the nittiest of gritties, the 1911 would win because of a slight design defect in the S&W revolvers --that little clearance notch in the forcing cone which splits with high pressure loads (Colt doesn't have that).

The 1911 because as you said, it's iconic and the design is practically flawless for what it was intended for.

Rifles? All-time favorites? Probably the Model 70, although I never owned one, just the cheap-assed version, the Model 670 in cal .243 Win. Of the ones I own, and this is only a personal preference because of my prairie-rat extermination days, my Savage (310?) varmint rifle.

Although I did some competition shooting with an NM Garand, and it was sweet-shooting, that doggoned en bloc clip system always put me off. Even the Japanese, when they copied it, put a detachable box magazine on it.

I think my brain just gave me a blue screen of death trying to process this question...

I think I'm gonna go 1911, M14, and Winchester Model 12.

So many good choices.... I think this answer changes from time to time, but right now my redhawk. I don't have a good reason, but when I open the safe to wipe something down with a rag it seems to be first more often than not.

Pistol....carried both the M19 and 1911A1...neither has ever let me down!
Rifle...Pre 64 M70"s.....have a couple of safe full...

LOL, same here.

I may have to say my Glock 22, it's ugly as sin, but it's simplicity of operation is the best action to save my life and others' as it sits on my hip everyday. I chose it for my duty pistol 9 years ago because of it's lack of a manual safety and consistant striker action.

handguns: even tie between the 1911 and the Ruger Blackhawk. If I could only have one rifle, without a doubt it would be my Marlin 336 levergun in .30-30.

I can't even decide weather it'd be a revolver or semi next question please.

Or rifle or shotgun... ?

My favorite firearm is a 4" blue Colt Diamondback in 22. That does not make it the best or its production a ground breaking moment in history.

A single-shot bolt action .22. Makes me slow down, shoot carefully, and gives me time to enjoy each shot - plinking was my childhood hobby growing up on the farm. Many thousands of .22 shells went through my single-shot Remington 141 Targetmaster, lemme tell you...

Ruger Blackhawk 45 colt.........I reload so that should be explanation enough

I have a 1991 which I love... I like 1911s in general due to the extensive history, but the one gun that is probably my current favorite would probably be the Ruger SRH Alaskan... I picked one up at the LGS and I want it. Impractical, expensive to feed, heavy, but I want it badly.

I haven't fired enough different guns to make that decision.

If you've only fired a few it should be easier.
In the 65 years since I shot my first one there's been so many I could never come up with a single all time favorite. :)

I am currently madly, head over heels a falling harder every day in love with a 9mm EMP we picked up a little while back. There is absolutely nothing I would change about that gun.

I guess the Hi-Power with the 1911 a close second. For a rifle, I'll take the FAL.

Hello friends and neighbors //Some fine choices here.
Other than the 870 WM, a gift from my parents on my 15th birthday in 1976, I'd never sell.

It would be this: SAAColtBisley.45calDOM1908.jpg

Shot the old Colt again last week, still running fine after 104 years.

Yeah, I like my 870's, and am fairly passionate about Glocks, but the AK-47/AKM, just take the cake. If I could only have one gun, it would be an AK.

Colt M4A1, yes a real one like the one at work. Unfortunately since I can't legally own one without spending something like $15,000 I'll go with the AR-15, ideally with a 22LR upper.

This is what I do the vast majority of my off-duty shooting with:
