I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, and I've seen some really awesome guns. But I'm curious, what's your MOST treasured gun? What's the ONE gun you would most hate to see leave your possession? And Why? Be it a rifle, a pistol, shotgun, whatever. Let's see it and hear the story behind it!

For me it's easy. It's the 1894 Winchester 30-30 my Grandfather bought new in 1914, passed it down to my Father in the 70's, who passed it down to me. It's spent A LOT of time riding in a scabbard on the side of a horse, some of it on the side of my horse. It's been over a lot of territory, in some really remote places. It still functions flawlessly and shoots right where you aim it. Everything else I own could be replaced fairly easily. But not that old 30-30. That thing is a one of a kind as far as I'm concerned.

S&W 686P .357 Magnum, 2.5" barrel . Great trigger, great accuracy. Magna Ported with Hogue grips. A great gun that I will never sell.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Kinda like asking me which is my favorite grandchild. All different and all special.
I have a few guns that are not special but too many that are to say one is favorite. Maybe the 20g Ithaca model 37 featherwt that I got for christmas before I was 14 (around 1971) or the first handgun I bought used (model 66 no dash) while in college and living in a dumpy crime ridden neighborhood, or the Winchester model 70 .243 that I bought on an estate sale, or...

Nice! I'm considering a .357 mag as my next purchase, though I haven't narrowed it down to which model.

I would have to say my Ruger GP-100, 6" barrel, stainless steel.

Super easy to shoot accurately and just cool overall. :)

This one. It is probably the least valuable one I own in terms of what it would bring on the market, but I wouldn't give it up for all the rest.

It was my grandfathers, my uncles and then mine. I am the 3rd Paul to own it.
Hopefully there will be another.

It provided meat for the family in hard times. The number of squirrels and rabbits it has killed would blow your mind. And it also put a load of birdshot into a peeping tom (or so the story goes) that got caught red handed when my uncle stepped out onto the porch.

A Winchester Steelbuilt single shot 16-gauge.

Typically, whichever one I just got... for a few days, at least.

Otherwise, it varies from day to day, as there are so many differences between them..

Simple 10/22 late grandpa gave me going on 35 years ago. It came with a label stuck on it that said his and my name with ownership percentages of 51%-49%. I thought label was uncool and removed but always remembered. No telling how many boxes of fed lightning that have been through it. Still looks good with a few stock dings and sight adjustment screws goofed up due to adjusting with a barlow pocket knife. Get out now and then to rapid fire 10 rounds at the ole soup can.

Gen3 Glock 26.

It was my first: Gun fired, gun owned, gun purchased, gun conceal carried, gun open carried. It has been carried more than all the rest of my guns combined. I carried to at the hospital for all of our child's births, and to my brother's wedding and my sister's wedding, and several other occasions, too.

If I could only have one gun it would be a Glock 26, and I have held that opinion for over a decade now.

Love the story behind that one!

There's a favorite and then there's the runner-up. My 2nd most loved gun is my Browning Hi-Power Mk.II. I have had enough time spent with Hi-Powers to know for sure that this one's a keeper. Great sights, great trigger, along with extreme reliability and durability all make this 9mm. tops in my book.

Now for my all-time favorite. Back about 40 years ago I had about $300 saved up and it was burning a hole in my pocket. Knew of this gun shop about an hour and a half away that had this really sharp looking nickel plated Colt Combat Commander. It was part of a limited number run from Colt's Custom Gun Shop. Besides the bright nickel plating it had a Gold Cup trigger, MMC rear sight, and had been throated, accurized and given an a complete action tune-up. Price was just a bit under $300.

It was Saturday afternoon and I had some chores to take care of and before I knew it it was like 2:30 and the shop closed at 4:00! I'm telling you I flew done there and got there at around 3:45. The gun was still in the display case along with another gun that was exactly the same only it had an ambidextrous safety. Unfortunately this would have taken me over my $300 cash amount and at the time I didn't have any credit cards. So it was the regular version for me and that was more than enough!

After having it for awhile I put Pachmayr grips and a flat mainspring housing on it, along with a Pachmayr magazine. I have put countless rounds through it and shot it side by side with a Gold Cup and always get the same unbelievably accuracy that typically only a target pistol can give you.

This is my favorite:

I'd have to go with my CMP Special grade Springfield M1. I'd hate to see it go mainly because it's gonna be hard to replace given current stock of the CMP. I don't have any pass down firearms, so none have sentimental value like that. Hopefully if/when I have kids some day, I can pass mine down and start the tradition.

That's a nice story, 2tall! And a beautiful rifle!

I too, am a sentimental fool, and that's what makes it tough to pick just one!

The one with longest history in my family is a 1909 Remington mdl 12 (pump action 22). She ain't pretty, and the barrel only has wisps of rifling left...but it was my dads 1st firearm, that he got from his stepdad.

I think though, if I had to boil it down; my dads well worn para ordnance p14 wins. That thing never left his side, and I can recall an incident when he had to wield it, to settle down an intense situation. Aaah childhood memories.

There are others...but I'd have to be in a real bad way to ever sell any of them.

Totally impossible unfair question.

Which body part do you want removed?

Here's hoping I never have to answer either question for real.

Easy. It is the first firearm that I ever shot, at age 8.

It is a Winchester Model '06 .22 S/L/LR from 1925. it was already beat up when it was given to my Dad at age 8 in 1940, and it has gotten even more dinged up in the decades since. The stock has shrunk and is a bit loose, whatever blueing it had is now brown, but it still feeds any and every style of .22 ammo.

It is also the first firearm (and possibly the only one) that my Mom ever shot, and I heard that she made the mistake of holding back the trigger while pumping it and the muzzle was in close proximity to my Dad's foot!

I have acquired many other firearms since first shooting this one more than five decades ago, and I have disposed of some. However, this one will remain in my gun safe, as well as get periodic trips to the range, until I decide which grandchild is going to keep it in the family.

S&W 627 PC, 8 round cyl, great trigger.

.
bannockburn, that's a great 1911!

Sheesh. My favorite? Hard to choose. My Springfield 1911, or a 3-screw .41 Blackhawk, or a 3-screw .44 SuperBH... or my Browning 92 in .44... or my 6.7 lb .308 Ruger Scout... or my CZ 527 in X 39... or my Remington 1100...

But, seriously; my favorite gun is my next one!

:D

Oh, and Welcome to THR, Tom!

Right now?

My pre-ban 1977 Colt SP1 because it's a great rifle and it really pisses off the Massachusetts AG that she can't take it away from me.
