first, lets spare the normal folks with the "Saturday Night Special" mantra from those offened by the name. the Democrats came up with the title, so im all for having fun with it by using it in and out of text in spite of them. let the "SNS" flourish!!!!!

second, this is NOT for guns like the Kahr PM9 or S&W 642 and what not, this is for .380caliber and lower and what ever stereotypically gets put here by the old Democrats when the phase was coined......quality does not matter, price does not matter, the only stipulations is .380acp or lower, gun should be 5" or less in length, dont try to squeeze in that other 5/8" please.....

third, you have to actually carry it for self defense, thats the catch. i dont care if you have a Raven .25acp that you carry for defense against snakes while fishing.....thats bologna.....

so, what are mine? i have a Seecamp .32 and a Kel-Tec P3-AT. im leaning twards a NAA .22mag 1 5/8" derringer wheely. but i might be swayed if i see some other options......

what say you? lets try to keep it fun also, if that can still be done here.

I own, and have carried:

Bulgarian Makarov. My first carry gun in fact, I still wear it on occasion.

Kel-tec P3AT, more of a secondary than a main carry gun.

CZ70 .32ACP. Little weenie caliber, but I can empty the magazine very fast into a very tight group. It hides very VERY well too, good shorts and a T-shirt gun, thats a little easier to handle than the P3AT (big hands)

Taurus PT-22. I used to keep it loaded with CCI Minimags in my center console. Rarely bobbled, which is surprising for such an inexpensive little gun.

Bersa Thunder 380. Was my primary for quite a while, before I discovered I could conceal service size autos by simply dressing appropriately. (Good Belt and holster helped too)

Bryco T-380 larger frame .380acp. Very accurate and reliable. The only bummer is I don't trust it with one in the pipe.

About 6-7 years ago I carried a Bulgarian Mak. I paid around $125 for it. I still have it, but I consider it underpowered. But for its price, it's would not really deserve to be called an SNS - it's designed to be a sturdy, reliable, and accurate, if underpowered, police/military sidearm.

2 1/2" 686 on occasion. Remember, the way the law was written it outlawed many more expensive guns as well, not just inexpensive ones, as well as many calibers.

But... to the "old Democrats" price DID matter. "What ever stereotypically gets put here..." would be a cheap, typically low quality weapon that could be easily obtained. A stereotypical SNS is almost a disposable gun.

Your definition of a SNS seems to include any small or concealable firearm chambered for a .380acp cartridge or smaller, regardless of the cost or quality of the weapon.

I'm seeing a few of you list Seecamp 32s. While they're certainly small and fit the "mousegun" requirement that JERRY put forth in the first post of the thread, I think they're a bit expensive to be called saturday night specials.

Because of the Low FPE of a .32 you need to go with the FBI's recommendation to make a .32 into a "Deadly Beast"... You will get Deadly results with FMJ's... You will shoot holes in Heads, holes though Lungs, Heart, and reach deep enough to to Blow Out A Splene Or Aorta... All these lead to Bleed Out and Death... Only a Head shot or Spine shot above the shoulders is a Knock Down One Shot in any Caliber...

Note: Hollow Points must be thought of as a Para shoot that opens up to slow the Bullet Down on bigger calibers that have High FPE's to keep 100% of the Bullets (no shoot through) energy in the BG... The Bigger Wound Channel is just a Bonus for Bigger Calibers that leads to faster Bleed Out and incapacitation...

Note: Always back that first shot up with a quick second shot...<:)) Now that you have the BG's attention with the Two Holes you put in him, it is optional to empty your gun on him...<:)) Remember, its not fare to shoot BG's in the Back...!!! That Takes Points Off Your SCORE...<:))

~Pick Your Poison Bullet~you will see Bullets that surpass the "FBI's" recommend 12" to 14" penetration...

I guess you could call my Polish made P64 a SNS :p

I paid around $150 if I remember correctly...chambered in 9x18 mak

Isn't exactly an SNS to me, but I carry a KelTec P32 nearly all the time. Usually it's a BUG. Other mouse gun I like is a CZ27.

Well I guess it would be the Kimber I bought jams more than a Raven . So must be a expensive SNS .
I have a FIE Titan 25. cheap but works and always has. Maybe Kimber should look to them for directions on relieability.

several years ago one of our local media in their infinite wisdom refered to a crime being commited with a "SNS".I later found out it was a HK P7, so I guess since the media is alway right:banghead:when I carry my P7 I am carrying a SNS

If you already carry a Seecamp, and you are looking at other mouse guns, I'd recommend something different . . . such as a fine defensive knife to add to your Seecamp.

Inside of six feet where mouse guns get used generally, a properly handled knife will kill an attacker a lot faster than pissin' 'em off shooting them with a wimpy cartridge. As a matter of fact, inside of about 19' a skillful attacker with a knife can kill you before you can clear leather.

Food for thought.

T.

PS: When I absolutely cannot even carry a J-frame Smith, I do have a Kel-Tec P-32. However, since a .38 caliber (or .357 caliber) J-frame is pretty danged concealable, I'd rather have an accurate cartridge that's a lot more powerful then the limitations you put on this thread.

Get a knife, learn to fight with it, and practice.

To be honest, I don't like the term "Saturday Night Special". It's an ignorant statement or description, whether from either an anti or a snobby gun owner. Having said that, I do carry a couple of less expensive guns at times but not in smaller calibers:p

I think that is where the concept of drawing and firing on a target in 1.5 sec. People are surprised at what can be done with a knife. Long ago and far away I carried a knife as my main source of self-defense.

I do disagree that a small round is only going to piss them off. No one wants to get shot, no matter how small the round. IF they are drugged or mentally deranged then shooting them with something bigger may not get the job done.
I know from personal experience that you can get slashed / stabbed and keep fighting.

For most people a gun, any gun is better than nothing.

If you ever owned/shot/handled an RG, you would know the gun that that term would fit were we to accept it as a valid description...

Rossi .38, 5 shot, 2 incher...she was cheap but has never failed to function in just around 500 rounds accurate enough at 15 feet and is very compact.

The Mighty Z!

Zastava Model 70 - Serbian .32ACP . Paid $ 99 for it - carried at a few times, but have better options. Jusdging from the wear on it, it was carried ALOT and probably used eaually.

It now resides rather ingloriously in a drawer as my "bathroom" gun. In case of a home invasion while I'm on the throne, just want to make sure I can fight my way to where my G19 of AK is stashed :D

Can't believe I'm the first to mention a Beretta 950BS in .25acp. Great little gun that works every time even if the round is anemic. I've also got an NAA mini in .22lr that gets some use.
