What's Your Real CCW?/Mr. Colion Noir

While I have carried Combat Commanders in the past nowadays I prefer smaller and lighter. Typically I rotate between a Kahr PM9, a S&W Model 638, a SIG P238, and in the really hot (and muggy), summer months a KelTec P3AT.

I usually end up with at around $1,000 invested in a CCW piece, not counting leather. Over the decades that carry has been a Lightweight Commander, more often than not. I'm not a rich man, but will save my $ to afford quality equipment.
I have associates who carry the mouse guns. Not for me, but we each have to work out our own salvation.
My current CCW is a S&W Mountain Gun. I prefer a defense handgun caliber to start with a 4. Discovered Perry suspenders somewhere on the internet and they have made a huge difference in carry comfort, for me.

G23 or G30 (both Gen4) for main carry, Kahr CM40 for pocket carry, with spare 6rd mags in opposite pocket. Due to the ease of carry with the CM40, I find myself taking that with me more and more.

during presentations in front of an audience, while formal dancing in front of a crowd, in police stations, on roller coasters, in business meetings, in the presence of family members who are very "huggy" and in thousands of other environments and have never been "made" (of course, that anyone's mentioned).

Sam - mind if I ask what holster(s) you generally use? And if it's not too personal, what type of body profile you've got? I have a gov't 1911 that I love, and if I could ever find the right carry rig for it I would love even more to be able to carry it on the days that I won't be just sitting in the office 8 hours.

And to contribute to the post: my EDC is a Ruger LCP. Nothing fancy. If I had my way it would be a Dan Wesson CCO (bobtailed short-framed, 4.25" slide 1911) but I just can't justify spending the money on one.

When working I carried a most 4 years cm9 and a Taurus 85revolver for 20 year before that had to retire and started iwb'n a cw9 kahr now a commander sized tp40 in a cross draw but on my strong side at 2:10 position. Works well when driving and sitting too . I don't like to mix designs so only kahr. !

Am I wrong? Are most people's CCW's full size guns? What is your daily CCW?
I would guess most of those people are, as you said, simply showing off their favorite/coolest/most expensive guns. I'm sure that there are some people carrying heavily customized, high end guns but I would imagine most of us "regular folk" are carrying compact or subcompact, low or mid cost, production guns.

FWIW, my current two most commom carry weapons are a Glock 36 in a Summer Special style IWB holster and a S&W 386 Night Guard in a Bullard Belt Slide. Both totally stock.

I think you'd be wrong.

Why wouldn't one carry a $1500 (or more expensive) pistol daily? I don't buy guns just to take them out of the safe once a month, wipe them down and gaze at them for a few minutes before putting them back in the safe (okay, so maybe a do have a couple pieces in that category) ...

I want the best gun (for my money) that I know I can depend on if I have occasion to draw ... My most expensive guns are my carry guns (my "collectibles" are all pretty much all older revolvers that have cost under $600 or so). Holster wear on a Wilson? So what? No one buys a $3000 1911 just to keep it in the safe.

Full-size? Most of us shoot "full-sized" pistols (or revolvers) far, far better than compacts or sub-compacts. Not to mention the capacity issue.

A 5" 1911 is one of easiest pistols to conceal there is (as others have noted).

I find I carry a 1911 in the colder months, typically a Colt's LW Commander (I have just decided the Wiley Clapp special edition is my new favorite 1911) or a 5" Series 70. In the warmer months, a SIG P226/228/229 conceals easily.

Yeah, I'll keep the $350 Taurus PT-145 in the tacklebox or truck, the type I'm not gonna cry over if something happens to it, but the one gun I want on me is the one I trust the most, the one which I shoot the fastest and most accurately.

S&W 642. It fits with any attire, doesn't weigh things down. I sometimes carry a Kframe revolver, or a CZ75, but they are definitely not my daily carry guns.

I cannot take a chance that anyone will see my CCW (legally carried with permit) due to work environment, so that dictates an LCP or a S&W 642. Other choices are simply too big to 100% conceal at all times in any attire. I wish I could carry My HK USP elite or a Kimber 1911 or SIG but they are simply too big for 100% concealment in normal dress attire.

For CC I carry a G23 99% of the time. If my clothing doesn't allow me to carry the Glock, I carry an sp101. I usually have my ppk on my ankle as well. Nothing too expensive but I'd still be pretty bummed if something happened to any of them!

Concealed?
What do you carry the mags in?

Yes I carry concealed, unless I'm on our land then, it depends on what I'm doing, like I don't when using a chainsaw(don't want my shirt catching in one of those things). I carry the mags in a Bladetech double mag pouch. Some people I know use single mag pouches that way they can use one to as many as they want.

I once knew a guy who IWB carried a 50-cal Desert Eagle. I don't even like holding one, let alone trying to hide one in my waiseband.

While probably extremely uncommon, some people actually do carry expensive, huge, and otherwise completely impractical handguns.

As said before my NAA Black Widow is always with me and then either my 44mag in a OWB or a 1911 in a IWB. The 1911 is an old Star PD and will be replaced one day with another 1911.

Everyone has different budgets so I don't see what's so farfetched with expensive carry pistols. I carried a Kimber Warrior for about five years until it started looking worse for wear. Went to a customized Glock 17 that's with me daily and haven't regretted ever spending the dime after an initial proofing of 2000 flawless rounds without cleaning and taking it out to 100 yards for COM hits. I have an identical one sitting in my safe minus the concealment grip chop and stippling (which I'll have to sit down and do someday, I guess). Initial gun and optics and machine work, plus if I paid a gunsmith to chop and stipple would put it around $1500. It's definitely not $1500 show gun.

I've never had a problem conceal carrying a full size handgun and I'm a small guy. Wearing mid or high rise pants at the natural hip instead of a low waist solved fitment issues. I don't like the idea of compromising on barrel length at all. The grip chop is great because it reduces bulk through a shirt with a G19 mag and my spare mags are G17 mags.

It's possible the OP is correct, some people may be showing off their best guns or maybe they do carry them because they are their best guns. Who really knows but them?

My daily carry is by far not my favorite revolver but it's a good carry. I pocket carry a S&W M442 every day and when I am required to go somewhere I really don't want to be I add a S&W M640 in .357 Magnum in a cross-draw holster. I have several semi-autos but I can't kick the love of revolvers.

I rotate Two Guns from this list daily. Glock 26, Taurus 617, Ruger SP101, Ruger LCR 357, S&W 442, S&W 37, and once in a while a NAA Mini 22 Mag.

Is that mag pouch IWB or OWB?

I never used to carry a spare mag, but as of a Labor Day sale, I have been able to comfortably and adequately conceal 1 spare magazine.

My real EDC:

(note that my OCD is driving me crazy because the spare mag is facing backwards in the picture and I didn't notice until after I took it)

I can't imagine owning a gun too expensive to carry!

My every day carry gun is my Kimber Eclipse pro. I wore the finish off my Kimber Tac Pro II. I would carry my Colt Delta Elite if it were a commander sized gun. If I can afford to own it, I will carry it. My Milt Sparks Holster is starting to show its wear after 3 + years of constant carry. The point is that some of us will spend what we need to carry what we want.

Kind of surprised no one commented on this already, but...

Since the new "knock out" addition to black culture I started putting the G17 mag into the G26 I carry daily. Might have a whole pack to deal with.

...what exactly is "black culture"? And "pack"? :scrutiny: I don't know what was intended there.

Back on track. Maybe I'm different from majority on this thread, but I don't carry my Dan Wesson. It's too expensive to abuse it like a carry firearm (at least for me). Abusing my LCP doesn't bother me at all.

Sure, I do know what type of incident that he's referring to. It happened in my city. Just not sure about the "black culture" comment.

I carry a Glock 19 as my EDC ...... I could carry a 1911 easily, Glocks just fit the carry bill better for me personally.
