I carry a P226 a little more than half the time, a Kahr K9 the rest. With the right belt and holster, the P226 is no problem under an un-tucked Polo type shirt.

When I got done paying for shipping and FFL transfer fee my Rohrbaugh R9 was a little under $1,200

Taking it jogging and cycling has started to wear the finish a little and I hate that, but I didn't buy it to collect or invest, it's my carry firearm.

I do have a problem carrying my HK P7M8 - I can't bear to wear the finish off of her.

I don't think it's out of the question that people really do EDC expensive firearms, but I do wonder about carrying really nice firearms that are wonderful show pieces.

Like I said - it's hard for me to carry my P7M8 now. I think I'll pickup up a PSP or something as a substitute.

Okay, if I had an HK P7M8 I might be tempted to leave it at home, too! Such a beautiful gun and pretty collectible. It would be a terrific CCW gun but it's understandable that a person might want to just keep it in the safe or as a range gun.

I have numerous handguns which would make the top 10 lists for best conceal carry gun, but I have yet to find a better setup than a Ruger LCR in a pocket holster. It has the best trigger of any snubby I've tried. It handles +P loads well. It will never FTF.

MOST IMPORTANTLY it goes with me everywhere in my truck. I can put it in my pocket in 2 seconds when getting out to pump gas or running into a store for a quick errand. I don't have to wear a special belt, fool with IWB holsters or drive with a gun sticking into my side. Those quick errands are the most likely situations to need a CCW. What good is your CCW if it is sitting in your glove box?

I don't carry full-size or my "best" or most expensive.

In the winter it's my Makarov in an IWB setup. Carries super comfortable and is completely concealable. Cheap, utterly reliable, and more than enough. Buffalo Bore FNHC are the key.

Summer carry is an Interarms PPK/s .380 also IWB and loaded with Buffalo Bore FNHC. 8 rounds in either is more than plenty IMO.

Real CCW

Me, about half a brain, Bride has a different half.

Sobriety, two sets of keys, 'phone, two Franklins and an IWB that'd allow access to some sort of 'get home safely' tool.

Ive always carried a full size handgun, as well as a double reload, and more often than not, a BUG. Ive done that 18/7/365 most of my adult life.

Started out back in the mid 70's with Colt GM's and Commanders (as well as a short stint with a couple of High Powers), and a PPK or SIG P230 as a BUG, sometimes a J frame of some sort instead. Usually a double reload for the .45's. Did that daily for about 25 years.

Switched over to SIG's back around 99/00, P220's, 226's and 229's mostly, before finally settling on the P226, usually along with a double reload and a P230.

Since around 07, its been a Glock 17, double reload, and a 26 as its back up.

Carrying a full size gun isnt hard, but it does take some dedication. Once you get used to it, its no big deal, and you only really notice it, when its "not" there.

Im really amazed sometimes when I hear people say they couldnt possibly carry anything bigger than a Baby Browning, or one of the current "little" guns. Personally, I think its all about "want", than it is about "cant".

Hey, to each his own. We all have to deal with it the best we can, and live with our choices.

I carry a sig p220 Sao compact carry. Little pricy. But it never leaves my side. I leave it in my truck while I work. It's a small welding shop so it's safe there. One my hip when not working. With no holster. Right side and my belt keeps it in place. And at night, it's on mt night stand.

My CCW is Smith and Wesson M 66-1, 21/2". The main reason is it feels like a real gun in my hand. As for cost, well it was not cheap but not yet in the $1,000.00 range.

I usually carry either a XD-40 or a KelTec P11 depending on where I'm going how I'm dressed etc. I do occasionally carry a SR 1911 also & if I'm going to the woods I prefer my old Dan Wesson model 15-2 revolver. If I owned higher end guns I would probably carry them. I don't get enjoyment from having guns locked away I like to get them out & use them.

I rotate between a CZ Rami 9mm, CZ P-01 - 9mm and a CZ 83 - .380. All carried in OWB Wild Bill Fusion paddle style holsters. I also have a CZ 97 45 ACP but haven't tried to carry that beast yet.

For me its a Gen4 G19 in the summertime and an HK45c LEM in the wintertime - both ride in Raven Phantoms. Just acquired a HK PSP that is getting some hip time as well in a Milt Sparks VMII. If I could afford an Ed Brown Kobra Carry I'd surely CCW it as well and could care less if the finish wears off, etc. It's a tool.

What amazes me is that guys will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on way more house than they need, tens of thousands of dollars on nice 4X4 pickup trucks that never go off road, on sports cars that sit in rush-hour traffic, on bass boats and motorcycles that sit unused over half of the year, on campers that do the same, on the latest and greatest golf clubs or on Apples latest gadget and then get totally upset when they find out that a decent carry gun is 500+ bucks... simply amazing to me.

Yep. Guy I know buys cheap guns, don't think he owns anything that cost more'n about 400 bucks, but he's got a $3,000 70-inch HD flatscreen TV ... priorities, I guess ...

With the right belt, holster, and clothing it can be very easy to conceal larger guns. Pick a gun that you will carry all the time whatever it is. Once you are comfortable and used to carrying, try to change things up to see if you can accommodate a larger gun if needed. I am faster and more accurate with a full sized handgun and the extra ammo capacity is nice.

My progression over the past few years has been.

Sig P238 ~1 year.
Sig P938 ~1 year.
Glock 19 ~6 months.
Glock 32 ~9 months.
Sig P229 .357 Sig ~9 months.
Sig P226 MK25 1 day.

At times I have also carried a P220 carry, P220 SAS, and a P228.
Planning to add a commander sized 1911 and see what all the fuss is about.

The Infidel holster from Comp-Tac was a revelation in carry for me. I am a big guy, 6'4" 350lbs. These holsters just a hair forward of 3 o'clock are very comfortable to the point I forget they are there. Even if I am not going to leave the house, or after I get home for the day, if I have pants on I am carrying.

The expense of the gun is not much of a determining factor when I choose what to carry. I buy guns to use, no safe queens here, the wear gives them character and makes them uniquely mine. If it comes down to losing it in a defensive shooting, the cost of replacing the gun would likely be the least of your worries, financial or otherwise.

Find the gun, holster, and clothing combination that work for you, carry it as much as possible, and practice practice practice.

And now it's happening in this thread.

Yet the sales figures on .380s in the past five years, and now micro 9's, say a lot of folks aren't carrying big frame autos. Add in the snubbies, there's a lot more.

Look at posts around the net, you get a different idea than one thread.

Can you link to some of those sales figures?

Don't forget that there is a build in bias when you look at what active firearms enthusiasts who frequent gun boards and the like respond with.

I had a Nighthawk Talon II bobtail I carried for a while. Then I decided, if I had to use it in a justifiable shoot, I wouldn't want it tossed carelessly into an evidence locker or dragged through the court system, so I started carrying a Colt or a Glock.

If anyone was going to scratch it up, I wanted it to be me.

I carry at least 5 days a week. RIA FS 1911 10mm in my Alessi Bodyguard or my IWB SS II. Same for my RIA FS 1911 45acp. At times my Glock 20 in my Overland Gun Leather Axe IWB. I wont carry compacts or own them. Dress for the gun and I have no problems concealing my FS pistols.

I carry a pre-war Detective Special every day. It's very reliable and conceals well in DeSantis "leather," whether in front pocket or inside jacket pocket, or in a shoulder holster.
