I usually look for something pinned and recessed. Checkering along the sight rib is always a plus, or .22LR caliber is nice too.

A prancing pony is another one I check for.........

For me there are two.

Revolver: S&W Model 66 with 3" barrel and round butt
Autoloader: H&K P7M8 (preferably NIB)

I have yet to come across either of these at local gunshops. The day I see either, it will be mine :scrutiny:

For me they are listed from the most likly to find to the least.

Springfield V-16 6" stainless .45 Super.
Mateba 8" .357 without the threaded barrel.
Springfield Omega 6" stainless 10mm, though I had heard rumors of a 7".

A Colt Police Positive Special Mark V .38 Special. They had a 4" underlugged barrel and were only made for a year or two (94-96?). I had a minty one and foolishly sold it to finance a 1911 that was a jamamatic. I've been looking for another one ever since....:banghead:

How about a Remington 51 or a Colt model M in great shape at a decent price. I know, great shape and decent price don't go together.
