Where are the hammer fired subcompact pistols?

MedWheeler, I personally don't like safeties on a defensive gun because I prefer to just draw and pull the trigger. I'm sure there are alot of good DA hammer guns with a safety, but I'd be worried the safety would get inadvertently engaged and when I pull the gun I've got a dead trigger and that's a bad time to troubleshoot a "malfunction". I love my Sig P225 with the decocker, but it's pretty big and chunky for just an 8+1 9mm.

GrampaJack, ok that makes more sense, sorry. Yea I've looked at getting a 230 or 232, but they are fairly big for a 7+1 380acp. Built like a tank though, and I may just end up with one to give it a try anyway, always wanted one.

There ya go, the RM380's upscale daddy.

I just feel like a long DA hammer trigger adds an extra level of safety over the short light striker triggers that everyone puts in their guns these days.

SCCY pistols and the Kel-Tec P-11 are DAO hammer-fired. The hammer is internal so you don't see it.

HK P30SK, or HK P2000.

I’d trust either one to run 100% out of the box and I don’t say that about many sub compact semiauto pistols.
Hmmmmm. I am extremely satisfied with my P30SK, and do trust my life to it all the time. My experience with HK has been nothing but positive. However, as a double stack, it is what I would consider to be rather thick and bulky compared to the other guns being discussed. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great choice, but I don't know about the size in this context.

Right on, I gotcha. I got a Kahr cw9 because while it is striker fired, the striker is only 'slightly' cocked and requires that long DAO trigger pull. It does lack restrike capability, which a hammer fired would have.

Sig P250SC

Length 6.67”

Height 4.67”

Width 1.06”

Weight 24.9 oz

Mag 12 rounds

Sig P239

Length 6.6”

Height 5.1”

Width 1.2”

Weight 29.5 oz

Mag 8 rounds

The P290 is even smaller than the P250sc. The 250 has a sweet trigger DAO with a smooth fairly light 6lbs pull. It is very comparable to a Kahr but you have a hammer.

Sure about that? I don't know about SCCYs and my wife has the P-11 in her truck, but the PF-9 I'm holding has a hammer that is flush with the frame when at rest, but visible there and when the trigger is pulled. I prefer a CC pistol with an exposed hammer so I can put my thumb on when reholstering so I'll know if the trigger has snagged. Just for the record, I own several Kel-Tecs - PMR30, PF9, P-11, Sub 2000 - and all have been very reliable.

Yes, I am certain. Here is an exploded view of the Kel-Tec P-11. Part 271 is the hammer: http://www.keltecweapons.com/media/catalog/category/pistols/p11/p11_exploded_view.pdf.

Here is the owner's manual for the SCCY CPX-1 and CPX-2: http://www.sccy.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/SCCY-Manual-8-2016_150web.pdf

Page 8 describes basic function. Page 31 has an exploded view of the receiver. The hammer is part 01-022.

Yes, an internal hammer does not provide the same visual evidence that the hammer is getting cocked inadvertently or allow one to ride the hammer while reholstering, but it does provide a similar type of trigger action to that of a DAO pistol with an exposed, bobbed hammer.

Springfield Armory has just released a hammer fired version of their small XD auto. I think it’s called the XDs. Might be worth a look. I think it’s more Kahr sized than some of the other guns already mentioned.

Just curious why hammer fired over striker fired?

For those who carry AIWB an exposed hammer is safer to holster. The thumb goes on the decocked hammer while holstering. If something gets caught in the trigger you'll know right away before it goes boom.

I own a Sig P290rs and am very happy with it. I also like my RM380 quite a bit. They are both a little thick for their classes but they seem to fit my hand well.

XDE meaning external hammer.

XDs is striker fired.
