Where are you guys getting your cast bullets?

I used to buy Oregon Trail "Lasercast" bullets when could get them on sale at Cabela's, and Magnus bullets from Midsouthshooterssupply otherwise. I've been quite happy with them, but they've gotten too expensive (especially the Lasercasts.)

Now I mostly cast my own, and buy some from [email protected] -- not to be confused with [email protected] whom I've also heard good things about but have no personal experience with.

I make my own, and the price is outstanding! The quality is also first rate.........

Hope this helps.

Fred

PS: Sorry, but I couldn't resist...

Send me 100 or so....I'll be the judge of that! :neener:

LOL...actually, I'm getting set up to do the same. Gonna cast my own "boolits" soon... ;)

Yesterday I bought:
1) 1 box of 500 155 gr. SWC .45 $18.00 +tax
2) 5 boxes 100 ea. 185 gr. GDHP $10.00 +tax ea.

Tax included that's .07 cents per bullet! from a local dealer.

Add to that a 1lb. container of Unique powder for $14 +tax and I think I got a pretty good deal for $87.70 out the door.

First, if I could get ready-to-load lead boolits that cheap, I wouldn't even turn my lead pot on. Second, is that a typo? 155 grain 45's? Good luck getting those to shoot/feed through a 1911! The lightest I've heard of for a 45 is 185 grainer's.

As said, if I want cast lead boolits, I make them myself. I lucked into 1300 pounds of soft scrap lead, and have been able to find enough linotype to make enough boolits to last the rest of my life!

That's no typo, they are 155 gr. lead swc. Ive been using them for years, first in the combat elite that I regrettably sold, then in my commander, and most recently in a laser aim .45. I seat them to an oal of 1.230 over anywhere from 5.0 to 7.8 gr. of unique. The 5.0 loading requires the use of an eleven pound recoil spring to cycle the action and the empties just fall next to my right foot.

Added: the 5.0 load is like shooting a .22

Consider yourself beaten.

Actually, Evan, I've read some not-so-good reports on keadbullets. In fact, one person has been waiting over 5 mos to receive his bullets and is being given the runaround on when he will actually receive them. Yes, I am sure you will eventually get your bullets. But five months and counting? My time is worth something. I don't have stockpiles of bullets that I am merely backing up, maybe you do. So, in reality, when I get mine in 4 days after ordering for 7.2 cents a piece for 1k(don't know what price is for 2k..might be less) vs 6.5 cents for 1k and a 5+ month plus wait, the real story is you've been beaten.

Sparky: I order my 9mm only from KEAD in 3000 lots.

Since you are so unimpressed, I'll keep my source for 230-rn 45acp for 5.45 cents each delivered, and 158-swc .357 for 4.35 cents delivered a secret.

I maintain a large stockpile of projectiles and only order to replenish.
Lead times don't worry me that much.

What I'm unimpressed with is the reports of 5+ mos of waiting without delivery. When you arrogantly post "consider yourself beaten" using a bullet supplier who cannot fill his orders inside a 5 month plus period, I'll respond with a yawn. I'm also unimpressed with your claim or large stockpiles, as I'm sure others are as well.
I've since done some searches and found a few suppliers with even better prices then my original posting of grandmasterbullets.com , so you can keep your little secret.
I will follow the guidelines of this forum and take "the high road" by not continuing any further verbal sparring with you, as I refuse to fight a battle of wits with an unarmed man. :D Have a nice day!

I totally agree, Mike at Mastercast Bullets makes great bullets at a very fair price. He is a great person to deal with too. I have also used Roger's Better bullets with good success. I buy from him when I see him at the Gun Shows because I can buy small numbers of odd sized bullets I want to try out without worrying about S&H. (like when I bought 100 200gr SWC bullets to try in my 1911) He has a very good product too. (but I buy most of my bullets from Mastercast.com now)

I haven't used any yet but check out www.freakshowbullets.com, Adam is a member of a lot of the gun forums and a good guy. I have been hearing a lot of good things about his cast bullets from people that have used them and the prices on his site look good.
