What online stores would you recommend I look for small and large primers? I’m seeing a LOT of scam sites out there. I’m new and actually have only one book so far lol but I want to get on any and all wait lists I can be on for primers. I’ve got 1000 rounds+ of once fired 38 brass and I’ve got 250 44 specials on the way. These are my only 2 rounds I’m going to do. I’ve decided on a couple equipment pieces… Lee breech lock hand press and RCBS hand primer tool and I want Lee carbide dies. Try to keep things simple. I’d really like a wet tumbler too, sounds safer than dry system as far as exposure. But looking for the hard to get stuff right now. Thank you! Gus. And hopefully I can keep Howie out of the reloading area!

Reliable vendors I have used for years/decades for powder/primers/reloading components. (Order from them with confidence and often at lower prices):

(Many offer free shipping/free HazMat promotions from time to time so do a search online for their current promotion codes)
  • Powder Valley
  • Graf & Sons
  • MidwayUSA
  • Brownells
  • Midsouth Shooters Supply
  • Natchez
  • Recob's Target Shop
  • American Reloading

Thank you
Just added these to the "Where ... Components" thread from Ammoseek.com search - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ad-link-required.910908/page-25#post-12842540

Guys the shipping is rediculous! Let’s say the primers 1000ct is 70 something— fine let’s go! Wait wait! The hazmat shipping is 40.00! I bet it’s going to be hard to find local. They GOTCHA comin and goin!
Gotta hunt for the places with free shipping and/or hazmat….they’re out there, just gotta find’em…

If you have a local academy, bass pro, and or lgs you got to make scouting trips. I have found everything but Lrp at reasonable prices in the last two years. If I really want to pay the local pawn has cci br-2 for 165 per thousand. Reloading has become a treasure hunt the last few years... get with your mentor and pull the handle and he will show you the path... a good trick is to split an order, I do it with my local Reloading buddy..... pv had free hazmat on Friday. Get on their email alerts.

Great ideas!!! Thx

I saw our local Academy has gone back to selling full bricks. They’ve had a lot of small rifle and pistol in stock down here. A mix of CCI and Winchester. I find it easer to just buy locally for primers and powder.

I do like to keep a wishlist at Midway. Their prices aren’t usually the lowest, but when they run free shipping offers (lately on the weekends) it can be worth it. Bullets tend to be the biggest saving here. No hazmat but they get pricy when costs are by weigh.

As you have found out, shipping and hazmat is typically worthwhile when you're buying high quantities like 10,000 or more. Occasionally, there will be sales, hazmat fee waivers or free shipping that makes a difference, but online prices aren't often enough lower than local to make up the difference of shipping and hazmat fees unless you're buying more than one brick or you're buying several pounds of powder on the same order.

Online prices are often a little bit lower, but not enough lower without quantity. On the other hand, online availability is almost always better, especially for hard-to-find primers (like large rifle or large rifle magnum) and hard-to-find powders.

Big-chain sources that might be local like Scheels, Bass Pro, Cabelas, Sportsmans, Dicks, Academy etc. are worth checking online to see what they have in-stock in-store at the store nearest you. When you buy at-store or if you can order for in-store pickup, then there is usually no shipping or hazmat fee. That way you can buy a single box of primers or a single pound of powder and not pay double for those fees.

I don’t know about other states but in Florida Dicks stopped carrying reloading supplies and handgun ammo after Parkland. Frankly, it would take a team of horses to drag my rotting corpse into a Dicks store.
