Where can I look for primers?

$29.99/50 for Federal fmj 9mm have been been on their shelves for weeks, I just saw those same boxes Tuesday when I sent in to start the wait on a Ruger target 19/22 I ordered. No .22 ammo on the shelf under $70 for a brick of 500, either. šŸ˜ž

Iā€™ve been in a few SW stores over the years. In Fresno, Ca the prices were better than Turners Outdoorsman, a Ca chain of gun-fishing shops.. Carson City, Nv was the same.

Flagstaff,Az was ok, but the SW in Corona, Ca is several bucks a box higher ammo-wise than the Turners in Corona, Ca.. Gun powder is 3/5 bucks higher a pound and primers are $1-2 bucks higher per 100, too. Temecula-Murrietta, Ca and Victorville, Ca is the same, with the local Turners beating local SW pricing.

Now SW does have a price match that is good. I asked and they dropped $35 bucks off their price for a Burris 4.5x16 scope because Wal Mart .com sold them for that much less.

(CAL Ranch ammo prices have been better than both stores. Just no CAL Ranch are located anywhere near me šŸ˜©)

As usual, your local store may be lower. But the three SW stores closest to me are not.

Stay safe.
It is true that location matters concerning price and availability for ammo and reloading components. Back in November of 2022, primers were extremely scarce here in southeast Washington state to the point that I joined a small group of desperate handloaders every morning waiting for our Sportsmanā€™s Warehouse to open to see if they had ANY primers available. I journeyed to Billings Montana to attend a wedding (and continue on to tag a nice mule deer buck) and stopped by the Scheelā€™s store. Couldnā€™t believe the variety and price of primers there. No limits either! (or sales tax šŸ„³).

i did the same thing during the crunch. :D

Now, just about every trip I take in the US has a detour built in for visits to gun and ammo retailers. (Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine is awesome! IMHO That upstairs showroom is what every gun store should look like!)

In fact, my jaunt to the Fresno SW was a spur of the moment stop. I was up there for a week long training class and I popped in three different times to buy stuff. The variety they had was great and prices were, too. Carson City had wooden racks piled with ammo and reloading stuff at good prices, far more stuff than other gun stores did down here at the time.

I get the changes in supply, increased material costs and associated retail price increases, etc. that stuff hit everyone. But these few SW stores I have shopped at are just not a place to bargain shop anymore I guess.

Stay safe.

The fishing section is three times the size of the hunting section. The boating area is about the same size as the fishing area but the 4-wheelers are confined to the entryway area.
I think they would prefer to close down the gun counter completely and concentrate on selling boats and lures.
I keep telling people things are not like where they are everywhere. The big chains are not consistent.
Ironically, our store sells a large selection of semis & revolvers suitable for CC but have a big sign at the turnstyle entry point to leave your guns at the service counter. I guess it's a CYA situation.

I bit the bullet and paid $83 per 1K of CCI Small Rifle Magnum Primers today from a gun shop about an hour away. Picked up 2K.

Havenā€™t seen them around for quite some time and I was down to my last 1K of $29 per from a few years ago.

Thanks Howland937 for alerting me on their availability!

2K primers and 2 lbs of CFE223 ended up being $234 +tax
