I have received a good job offer to move from Ohio to Honolulu. I own a few military target rifles, and several handguns. I reload and like nothing better than to put a couple hundred rounds toward various distances downrange on a weekend.
I know Hawai'i is not as gun-friendly as Ohio, but, after study, I think I could live with the state legal restrictions for now, primarily because I already own most of the firearms I would want for the next couple years. I have some knowledge of the Honolulu/Oahu area from some past visits, supplemented by a recent on-line search for the type of rifle and handgun ranges, but both searches came up pretty short or the range facilities I would expect locals to use. (I know of the "rental" range clubs catering to tourists from other countries, but I prefer to shoot outdoors and often at distances longer than 50 feet). The only range over 200 yds I found was owned by Puuloa Rifle and Pistol Club, and it looked from its website that if you were not a service member or former member, your chance at getting a membership was limited at best.
So if you live on Oahu, and especially in the Honolulu area, tell me - where do shoot?

They shoot out at the Koko Head range.

Bit of a pain in the a$$ due to the Hawaiian registration requirements. Don't bother to bring anything you really don't want to shoot. You will have to take everything to the police to register it.

The Koko Head Shooting Complex is located on the east end of the island of Oahu. Located on the back side of Koko Crater and Botanical gardens, it is listed on some maps as Kahauloa Crater. The entrance is located half of one mile from the entrance to Hanauma Bay

To get there from Downtown Honolulu, head east on H-1 continuing onto Kalanianaole Highway when the freeway ends. Continue on Kalanianaole Highway through Hawaii Kai. Drive up the hill and past Hanauma Bay. Once you pass Hanauma Bay you start on a downhill slope. You'll come to a sharp left hand turn followed by a pretty long straight away. About half way down this straight on the right is the Molokai Lookout. The Koko Head Shooting Complex entrance is just a stone's throw further on the left. There's a blue and white sign marking the entrance.

I would do one or both of two things. Don't take any firearms to Hawaii and buy what you need there or take only what you really want to shoot and keep it to a minimum.

And When I was living there Tom C is correct Ko Ko Head just the other side of hanauma Bay Where "Blue Hawaii" was filmed.

I have been by Koko SC Head and it looks like a nice facility. How crowded is the rifle and short handgun ranges evenings and weekends?

hawaii is probably the most anti gun state in the union. from what i've read, you have a better chance of getting a permit in NY or illinois.

Well, I lived there for 10 years. Brought my Seville 45 Colt/454 level, only.

Great guy helped me with reloading stuff. Problem is, you can't get anything OFF the island that's loaded. Can't get much ammunition from off the island, and, once made, shipping is so expensive, you better shoot anything on the island. I had some great handloads I couldn't ship off the island, since you can't ship anything but Fedex, and, they kill you on the dangerous material stuff. EVERYTHING IS SUPER EXPENSIVE.

Good luck.
