I keep hearing people say that things are getting better as far as components being on the shelves at least once in a while, and saying they are starting to see bullets and powder again.

I haven't had a lot of problems getting powder or primers but bullets have been scarce until I started buying them from Rocky Mountain Reloading.

I have to say I haven't seen .357mag brass for over two years. Most all the popular caliber brass is non-existent.

Where the heck did it all go?

Down in the Austin area I see plenty of unfired brass along with primers and powder. Bullets are still rather scarce even online though. I go through Bayou Bullets for my 9mm bullets but had to settle on the only 55gr .224s that Midway had (dogtowns) when completing my AR reloading setup today on Midway.

The way I understand it the manufacturers are using all the available components to make extended runs of finished ammo as that has the biggest profit for them. We reloaders get the surplus quantities/overruns. That is why I keep a goodly stock of OF brass as well.

lots of used brass out there, just have to look, I pick it up at the range all of the time. Don't need it but always save it to trade away. I'll trade .357 mag brass for .280 Ross brass.

Just recieved 500 starline 45acp from midway a few days ago.
Bought 500 starline 357mag several months ago that I forgot about until I went to put away those 45's....they were tucked back on the bottom shelf behind several hundred rounds of 357.
Just sold 500 starline 44mags to a forum member because I no longer reload those.
All bought from midway...Just put yourself on the notify list & be prepared to buy-on-the-spot when your smartphone alerts you of a new email (<--you have a smertfone, rite?)

Buy some once-fired brass from Gunbroker.
When I did two days a week as an R/O I carried as much as possible out with me each day. Sold it on GB. .357 always sold quick but never even close to what new costs.
Brass should be the least of your problems when it comes to components.

Right.

For as long as I have been reloading (30 years) i have always watch for sales on cases and bought some when they were on sale. For the less popular cartridges, there have been spot shortages even without the panics of 2009 and 2013. Having an inventory of of new cases is handy.

Within the past couple months I did finally buy my first 44 Magnum and was fortunate to be able to get 1000 cases without too much searching. But I think luck had a little to do with it.

The reloading components have been hitting the shelves but there's been a drought for a long time and popular items are being snapped up very quickly by reloaders looking to fill back their stock.

Recently MidwayUSA and Graf & Sons stocked .357 Mag brass but they were sold quickly (They were posted here - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=9230239#post9230239) for $199/1000 to $212/1000.

Natchez still has 100 count bags of .357 Mag brass for $26.99 - http://www.natchezss.com/Category.c...e=Remington 357 Magnum Unprimed Brass 100/bag

I have picked up 15,000 .223/.556 OF cases this year from a local LE range, and trading with friends. I have a friend that shoots a case of .223 per month, but refuses to. Reload .223, but can't get enough 9mm. We just swapped 5,000 9mm cases for 5,000 .223 cases Thanksgiving weekend. We have a local range that sells range brass (.03 for 9mm, .04 for .40s&w, and .05 for .45acp, and .223). I have also picked up a couple thousand .40s&w cases from them also.

As for bullets I haven't had a problem finding bullets for 9mm, .40, .45acp, and .223 since June.

I sold off over 20k pieces of .380, 9mm, .38sp, .40 and .45acp a few months back. Had a helluva time getting rid of it all.

I buy starline for all my pistol calibers and have had great luck with my m1a brass and bullets, primers and powder have been easy to come by locally but 22-250 winchester brass has been NON-EXISTANT....if anyone has some let me know!!?

Here in my neck of the woods there hasn't been a big issue finding the components I use.

Yes,I have had to use a couple different powders that I don't commonly use for my high powered rifle needs, .243, 6mm Rem, .270 win, and 7mm RM I have had to use alternate powders for. But they are powders I have used in the past, so I didn't necessary compromise in this respect.

But as for handgun components, everything has been readily available and not excessively more expensive then prior to the panic. I just saw Starline .357 mag. and 9mm brass last week locally in more than one shop.

At some times I have had to put on my reading glasses to start searching online, and gas up the car to search locally, but I have really had little trouble finding everything.

Go to an indoor shooting range they should have plenty,,,
There are people on this very forum that sell brass

I ordered 1000 starline .357 magnum brass from midway this week and received it yesterday. they only had it in nickel but they had it.

It's CHEAPER to order from STARLINE directly.

Agreed. They show 1000 ($129.00). But they are not accepting backorders on .357 brass, which means it could be a while. That's one of the problems with being at the bottom of the supply chain.

With STARLINE you just have to be sure to check the website every couple days.

It will go from NO BACK ORDERS to BACK ORDERS OK, which means the

RUN will begin SOON to In Stock shortly thereafter.

You need to be ready to pounce on it.

Be Vigilant and you will be rewarded.

They seem awfully proud of their .45 ACP brass at that price.

I've wondered that too. I've been looking and it does seem to be coming back. It seems I miss the availability by days if not hours. I've seen it sell out while I'm putting it in my shopping cart. So far, the best way I've come up with is to buy new ammunition. Especially for my odd rifle calibers.
