I see bricks of 2000 for sale on the internet, but don't currently have the cash to drop on that, plus shipping is almost twice the cost of the ammuniton for a box of 50. Does anyone know of regular, brick and mortar shops that would stock some .17hm2? Got the new toy coming in this week but forgot to buy ammo :banghead:

Midway has some for sale in boxes of 50, and I recall other vendors do too.

That sucks that your local shops don't carry it.

Ask the LGS to order you some. You might have to go for a brick instead of a box. But HM2 ammo is like peanuts... Once you start shooting it's hard to stop.

Tips to ponder:
1- It is a copper jacketed bullet, the barrel has to be cleaned about 100-200 rounds
2- Use centerfire barrel breakin procedures.
3- Eley works best in my 3 HM2 rifles
4- Hornaday ammo had a problem with necks splitting BEFORE it was shot. Check your ammo occasionally if you get Hornaday.

Ammunitionto go.com sells it in bricks for $49.95 +S&H. http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/index.php/cName/rifle-ammo-17-mach-2

Good shooting!

I don't have any big box sports/gun stores in my area, but 1 or 2 of our local shops sell it by the box. I usually buy all my 17m2 at the gunshow that comes to town 5-6 times per year.

You can come to our shop. We bought a brick of 17 HM2 in 2005. Still have 8 boxes. Make an offer. ;)

What is the difference between .17hmr and hm2
The 17 Hornady Mach 2 is a 22 Stinger case (slightly longer than an ordinary 22LR case) necked down to hold a 17 caliber bullet.

The 17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire is a 22 Magnum case necked down to hold a 17 caliber bullet.

or

about 500 fps.

Erm, guys, I asked where to buy it outside of the internet. All of you telling me so-and-so at some website has it for sale didn't really read the topic...anyway, walked into a random pawn shop and they had several bricks of it. You'd be surprised where you can find things sometimes.

You're right, and I apologize for that. I tried to help out by providing a link to a place that didn't sell it in 200 round bricks, since you said you couldn't afford that. However, you did say that you didn't want to pay shipping that would be about the cost of the ammo alone. In retrospect, that certainly should have clued me in.

I thought that was a better answer than "Tried looking in a gun store in your (unnamed) area? If I needed ammo and didn't want to buy online, I'd probably look in a gun store I think..." :D

Anyways, glad you found some. It will make your new rifle much more enjoyable :)

Well there are no gun shops in my (unnamed) local area, I guess I was just fishing for big chains that carried them on a regular basis. Thanks for all the replies though =)

Got a Savage MkII from one of the members here. If the stupid postal service will hurry up and deliver it, I'd love to write up a range report :D

Guess you missed my post mentioning the Cabela's, Gander, and BASS STORES......but that's OK, glad you found some

Is there is a decent following for the HM2? I wanted to get one but I wasn't sure the HM2 would be around long. I haven't seen one at my gunshop in quite awhile. I wouldn't want to buy a 500$ rifle and not be able to feed it properly.
