Where to buy a decent K-31

I've seen similar scars on the stocks of rifles that were stored behind the seat in pickup trucks.

I read on a K31 collectors site, that I cannot find the link to, that most of the K31's have these marks because the training of the day required lots of kicking the buttstock as part of the manual of arms.

Sounds reasonable.

See the red tag? It should have the Swiss owner's name on it. Have you sent him a letter advising him that you have the rifle he carried in service?

Doc2005,

I think you are confusing that red tag with a troop ID tag.

That red tag is just a stocking tag from a distributor.....has nothing to do with the K31 - all guns from the distributor will have them. It merely has the serial and the person who checked it before shipping initials it.

The troop ID tag is under the butt stock of the rifle, secured by one of the screws.

Heres what mine looked like.

aaronrkelly,

your K31's previous owner has the best handwriting I've ever encountered on these tags. I've seen a few that must have gone on to be doctors... completely illegible except for some numbers.

Using google maps, I was actually able to locate a satellite picture of the HOUSE where the previous issuant lives/lived. I have no idea what to write, and in what language, though. Been stalling on that almost a year.

Also I know a few swiss freinds that speak english... so it shouldn't be too hard to locate the person and have them find a translator, especially if they have children or grandchildren that speak english.

The swiss really love to label their things, I have a nice fuzzy warm wool coat with the name "Marai Jacques" scribbled onto a white disk, no other details other than that:banghead:
