One of my best scopes is a 15 year old Vari-X III. The adjustments and optics are really excellent. Since these have been replaced by new different models, where is the best place to look for used Leupold Vari-X III scopes for sale?
I really like the old design, proven tough.

Go to eBay. You may have to watch for a few days but you may be able to find one as low as $250. I just looked and there are 51 for sale today. Ones with a gloss finish are cheaper than those with a mat finish. My favorite is a 3 to 9 power with a 40mm objective, mat finish and duplex reticle. Good luck finding what you want.

This^^^^^^^^^^ I get deals on Ebay often. Always ask to see a picture of the serial number of the scope you will receive and confirm it with Leupold. Lots of china fakes out there...CYA:thumbup:

I've bought several Leupold used scopes on eBay and I have never had a problem. If you pay with PayPal it's not a problem to get a refund because if the seller won't refund the money the PayPal guarantee will refund the money. I like buying used Leupold scopes because I can get an excellent scope at half the price.

I used to be a really big fan of the VX-III until I got a couple of VX-3's. Improvements are unbelievable. Much better light transmission, field of view, and clarity.

If you want a VX-III in 6.5-20x40 let me know. I have two I'd replace with newer ones.

I really like the Vari-X III. I had an older one that I dropped 3-4 feet by accident onto asphalt. Checked zero and it didnt move at all! I just am not a fan of the new click finger knobs. The knobs feel like plastic to me, and the clicks seem mushy at times.

I just really like the older ones. Leupold really knew how to make those right!

I would trade my Vari X III for a new VX 3 any day. But to each their own. :)

Put a WTB on this & other gun forums & I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for. I have found shooters love to swap & trade up & down & sideways!

Optically a new VX-1 selling at $200 is a better scope than a Vari-X III, by a wide margin. I've heard that some people think the older scopes are tougher, but you can't prove it by my experiences.

The best places I've found to buy used scopes is in the classified sections of various gun related forums.

To each his own, but as others have said the newer Leupolds are far superior to the "III" you are looking for, especially in regard to lens coatings and glare reduction.

What mag range are you looking for? I have a 2x8x36 just rebuilt by Leupold 2 years ago due to O ring failure.

Like I said, I have two currently mounted. Both are in excellent condition. Both are for sale. One is on my Varminter AR, one on a 1,000 yard rifle. PM if interested

Redneck2 is right... I have 3 Vari-X-III 4.5-14X scopes, all with target turrets. Gorgeous scopes and they work well. Then I got a VX-3 just because I wanted one. It seems way brighter than the older scopes. The older scopes are just fine for me though, as I don't hunt with them or use them at times where the light is a factor. If I had a choice though, I would go with a newer Leupold! My two cents.
