I'm wanting to do another Rifle project. My last one turned out great, .25-06 on a 1923 FN 98 Mauser action. But I dont have a full machine shop available this time so I thought I'd start with a little short cut and get a barreled action in .358 and then I'd cut the chamber for .35 Whelen.

A few years ago Barreled actions could be found all over the place, but now? Where should I start looking?

It's a question I've asked and it seems to be echoing. I'd like to do the same in a variety of calibers.

Century International Arms has complete mauser 98 actions for $190 or so (eek!)

Interested in any replies you get, I'll keep my eyes and ears open for any options available.

Never thought of "re-activating" a drill rifle. Nice idea as long as it's done safely.

Samcoglobal.com usually has mauser barrelled actions for sale. Or without having to drill and tap you could use a stevens 200 action and it would wind up at less of a cost then having to drill and tap and convert the bolt and safety.

OH ! In Days of yore !
Time was when Mauser 98 actions both small and large ring were everywhere and could be picked up for a comparative song.
My favorite was a 1909 Argentine Mauser, new, in the white, hinged floorplate included, that could be had at the time for $25.00.
I built several rifles with this action.
Why has the supply of surplus actions dried up?

Who knows--found some barreled actions at Samco for $210 (bleh.)

Some projects may be getting the MOSIN treatment in my shop!
