I need to find a new stock for my long action Remington 700. I'm trying to stay away from the factory white spacers and glossy black endcap look. I like the looks of the newer CDL stocks, or even plain-jane walnut without the endcap is fine by me. It's for a hunting rifle that will continue to see some use, so a stock for show is not necessary. It'll use the hinged magazine floorplate. I've done some Google searches, but the results are mostly for synthetics. My Brownells catalog only had the showy Remington factory stocks (a la white spacers) or non-floorplate stocks. What companies or websites should I be looking at? Thanks in advance.

(Also, any leads on steel mag floorplate assemblies? Gotta get rid of the ugly plastic.)

For a plain stock, check eBay for a Rem 700 Classic stock. I saw a few there last week.

For steel bottom metal try www.williamsfirearms.com

Excellent workmanship. Picked one for a model 70 and am well satisfied.

e-bay is your friend. If they didn't have one there for cheap I'd be very suprised. Barrels, stocks, mags, brass, anything you want

I just received a Boyds' stock for my Remington 700 BDL. Cost $65 in laminate with their "Virtual Inlet Part" level of inletting. I will need to spend some time to finish the inletting, but that's no problem. I ordered their JRS design, and it's got nice lines. They show their current inventory on line, so I had my stock in my hands within a week of ordering. If I needed it, I'd get one in walnut in a flash.

My 700 now has Sunny Hill (steel) bottom metal. Pricey, but so much better than plastic. Not sure whether it came from Brownells or Midway.

Thanks, I forgot about Boyds. I'll look for some alum floorplates, the plastic ones rub me wrong.

Check out a Boyd's JRS Classic for a nice walnut stock. You can get one finished and virtuallt inletted for a good price.
I also agree with the EBAY thing. They usually have a bunch on there.
