I pose a question to all here, as a proud citizen of the US (not a subject) and proudly take advantage of my second admendment, which state do you believe to be the best state to live in? the criteria for this are as follows;
pro-gun state government, beautiful natural landscapes, at least 7 months of motorcycle riding time, which also equates to comfortable shooting weather.

I currently live in western NY and while it is beautiful here, I get plenty of riding time in, although in truth its never enough, and while I've never had any problems with the gun laws, I did find the red tape with my CCP to be a bit tedious, I'm thinking about going into law enforcment or the private security sector when I complete college so local leo pay must be decent for the cost of living. with the poll, vote for the region and then specify the state.

Crud, I didn't read all the way through before voting.:D

We can get 6 good months of riding in, usually. Also, given the dearth of roads you tend to go out then back, fewer "loop" opportunities.

I have always lived in the North East But would like a place on the Beach and a place in the Mountians with the money to come and go, With everything going on in other countries I am just glad to live in the United States.

Texas or New Mexico, IMNSHO. Both states give you about 10 months of comfortable riding/shooting weather. And, both have good firearm laws.

I was a life long resident of southeastern PA and really liked it there. However, I moved to Colorado a year and a half ago and LOVE it. Winters in the Denver area are mild. I was driving with my top down yesterday. CO is a shall issue state. Lots of beautiful scenery and great mountains.

...

Define "beautiful natural landscapes". I think the desert is a fun place to visit, but I'm a tree person myself. Our land is full of 100 year old oaks and 60 ft tall gum trees. If trees are your thing, check out Arkansas. We do get winter, but we probably have 10 months or more of riding weather. You'd spend more weekends at home due to severe thunderstorms (which are a fantastic show) rather than snow or ice.

Motorcycle roads? Go research "Arkansas state highway 7". And that's just the "overly popular not the best but the one everyone knows about type". I'm not a motorcycle guy, I restore old British sports cars, but we look for the same roads -- fun, twisty, and few people.

We're gun friendly, "shall issue", NFA allowed. Some folks here are "Christain conservative", some libertarian, a few hippie types. Land is cheap. Not as much work as Texas though.

I live outside of Little Rock. My wife and I think we'd prefer to live in a small town, but where we'd want to be (my best friend lives on 300 acres in the Ozarks) would put us a couple of hours from the closest Jewish congregation (not many of us here!).

Lots of outdoors opportunities -- deer hunting, fishing, ducks, whatever.

It's "big" enough to have plenty to do, but not so big as to get lost. And if you do want to go to bigger cities, Memphis and Dallas aren't that far away. Oh well, that's my plug for my home state.

i don't mean to bash on you but texas' gun laws aren't all that great. a chl only allows you to carry a handgun, for instance. new mexico's gun laws look like massachusettes next to az. of course, all three are better than new york but i'd like to make the case that az is the absolute best place to live.

shall issue ccw, nfa is okay, no gun bans whatsoever, state constitution guarantees individual right to bear arms, we have one of the most thriving shooting comunities in the country. we are home to the ben avery range which is the largest public shooting facility on the planet. it includes a thousand yard range which necessitates a road closure to shoot on:evil:

az has any climate that you could want short of arctic. we have the highest per capita boat ownership in the country. miles and miles of open highway and the climate won't rust your bike. if you can't take the heat of phoenix in july (wuss), northern az is still very pleasant. we have friendly people, a vibrant arty/hippie scene, great food and you can swim eight or nine months out of the year.

One big problem. Arizona shares a border with California and has to many of them visiting/moving there. BTW, I was born in Tucson.

The best motorcycle riding IMO is in Western NC and North GA.Both states have reasonably good firearms laws overall (though both are more restrictive in terms of CCW than here in MA ) and there is plenty to do if you're into the outdoors:kayaking, great flyfishing,Appalachain trail to hike etc.If I could find reasonable employment down there it's where I would live.

for 7 months of motorcycle weather, you'll have to look away from mid-west states - especially northern-tier states.

Come to Idaho. We score F+ on the Brady scale, and if you don't think the view is good, then there is something wrong with your head. I don't know about 7 months of riding time, though.

You could always become a Boston motorcycle cop. They carry anyplace and ride their Harleys 12 months of the year.

Whoops! I voted West Coast before I real ALL of your criteria. The correct answer is Texas, Arizona, or New Mexico, with AZ & NM the most picturesque.

In another thread HERE the poster showed the grades for each state as put out by the Brady Bunch ... uh Brady Campaign (anti gun group). The following states scored the worst (thereby having the best laws with respect to the 2nd ammendment).

ALABAMA
ALASKA
IDAHO
KENTUCKY
LOUISIANA
MAINE
MISSISSIPPI
MONTANA
NEW HAMPSHIRE
NEW MEXICO
OHIO
OKLAHOMA
TEXAS
UTAH
WYOMING

Alaska is very popular among motorcycle riders. Contrary to the myths south-central is milder than the midwest and those long clear summer days are about perfect for riding around. In the winter, a lot of folks put their hogs away and get out their iron dogs. If you've never tried that I suspect you'd really like it. It's not my cup o' tea but then I like a lot of steel around me when I'm moving fast.

The problem with anywhere in the South is the humidity and chiggers. Western NY is humid by Calfornia standards, but nowhere near as wet as anywhere in the South, if that's a consideration.

So, rero360, will you then be moving to the region that gets the most votes?
pro-gun state government, beautiful natural landscapes, at least 7 months of motorcycle riding time, which also equates to comfortable shooting weather.
Western Washington has all of the above, though we may have already reached our quota of immigrant Californians and New Yorkers for this decade ... Some of us actually ride year-round in the Puget Sound area, most of us shoot outdoors year-round (except for the real wussies), the natural landscapes are spectacular and second to none, while the state government is as solidly pro-gun as any (disclaimer: for now, as in any state). No red-tape for CPLs - no training req'd, 60 bucks (5 years, $35 to renew), a fingerprint and about a ten-day wait ...

In Nevada, only the area around Reno and Carson City has 'beautiful natural landscapes' (but it also snows there). The rest of the state resembles the surface of the moon. :uhoh:

in response, yeah, pretty much I'll move too wherever gets the most votes, and I don't like the idea of riding a cop bike year round in Mass, thats just insane, I've found out the hard way that motorcycles and snow judt don't mix, going down the thruway at 80 miles an hour with a skull cap on in a snow storm, I couldn't see 20 feet in front of me, damn near killed myself, and probably got frostbite on my extremities to boot.:p I won't be leaving NY for probably another 6 years, want to finish up college, get my masters and all that.

Arizona!

you can ride your motorcycle all year round, with a pistol on your belt. we have great highways for motorcycles, a lot of great scenic rides just outside the Phoenix area.

during the winter, you can drive 4 hours north from the desert and go skiing, if that's your thing. during the summer, you can drive four hours north for a refreshing temperature change, and to see some pine trees.

as far as hunting, we've got quail, dove, duck, mule & whitetail deer, javelina, elk, pronghorn, turkey, bear, mountain lion, all sorts of varmints, and some other stuff i've probably left out.
